I'm quite surprised no one's giving them a go this year - I'm sure I remember a few growing them in the past *scratches head*.

I quite fancy giving them a try some time as I've wondered if they might do well what with the fruits being not so big as some squashes so maybe ready faster & more prolific?

I've got 2 plants. The couple of times I tried growing them before they've always been slugged and I never got any fruit.
Fingers crossed for this year. They were planted out just over 2 weeks ago and are looking ok so far.

Growing them this year for the first time. They do seem to set fruit faster than my butternuts, picked the first one at about the size of a saucer last week. Slugs got one of my plants early on but the other two are motoring.

I've never grown them. Are they like winter squash or more courgette like?

They're a really cute summer squash Peanut - they look like little frilly flying saucers (to me anyway)

They do look like flying saucers..I like them because they mature fast.
They have a lovely sweet mild taste, and itssomethjng different for a change.

Would you say they have more taste than a courgette? Is the flesh firmer? I've only done winter squashes or courgettes and these sound like some strange kind of combo of the two maybe?

I agree they do look cute Andraste.

The internet says.......Harvested while young and tender, they taste a bit like courgettes, but with firmer flesh and a more buttery flavour that's a good vehicle for herbs and spices 😋

Peanut...I would say they are much tastier than courgettes...and yes, the flesh is firmer.
