They want to use boy's toys from their tool kit.

I prefer sticky tape, a peg, paperclip and string - or a bulldog clip for a heavy duty fix.

Thinking was as follows.

New Polystyrene lid - �8.00, new polythene lid �6.50, the 2 part glue �6.50, so it would make more sense to get a new lid next time I'm doing a big shop.


Because it is a Stewart propagator with a thermostatic control, there is notch in the lid to route the probe. This is was where the crack started. Every time I lifted lid, it flexed more . So I used a Dremel to drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it growing. Then used thick polytunnel tape to cover the crack inside and out and over the notch on the rim of the lid.

Finally, made a small hole in the back of the black tray to route the probe into the propagator.

Result is a lid that does not flex and can be fitted to the propagator with not fuss. In my opinion, a better design than produced by Stewart's.

Clear glass repair tape and gloopy superglue.

If a big hole, use tape on both sides..

Takes 5 minutes - of which 4 are washing and cleaning and drying first..
