Not just me then! I've been giving a Gourmande just another year for at least ten years now. It grows about an inch a year and has stuck at 6ft, sometimes has a smattering of blossom and has never set any fruit. There are several other pears of the same age nearby, which are now about 15 ft tall and give me barrowloads of fruit. They are Comice and Concord, a bit further away are Jargonelle, Louise Bonne, Nouveau Poiteau and an asian pear Shinseiki planted two years ago and setting a good crop

I have loads of blossom on my tree but to help it along i was going to get a brush and help it along by swapping the pollen , now is all pollen yellow or can it be different colour

All pollen of the same species will be the same colour, so all pear pollen will be the same colour. You can only pollinate a pear flower with pollen from another pear flower.

And no, different flowers have different coloured pollen. There's a rather nice chart thingy here

Pollen Chart - Sheffield Beekeepers' AssociationSheffield Beekeepers' Association

Pear is the golden orange colour in the second column from the left.
          Endless wonder.

To clarify: pollen needs to be from the flowers of a different variety, preferably unrelated.
A few varieties are partially self-fertile but crops are likely to be heavier and higher quality when cross-pollinated by a different variety.
A self-fertile or part-self-fertile variety doesn't need the pollen to come from a different flower; a flower can potentially pollinate itself with its own pollen.
            .

I'm on your 2014 thread, am still giving it the benefit, still haven't had an edible pear. I get a lot of dieback on entire branches, leaves all turning black. If I had to rip out any one fruit tree in the orchard of forty trees, that would be top of my list but I've waited so long now that it might as well have another year. Its planted near what was the houseproud neighbour's septic tank soakaway so it's possible that its growing in Harpic saturated soil.

Threads merged! Don't think I'll be buying a Gourmand pear from these reports!
