Aldi fruit bushes

On the 14th Aldi will be doing 3 fruit bushes for �1.99 red and black current, goosegog, raspberry and tayberry in various combinations. Thought you may be interested.
Also Wilkos are doing some cheap onion and shallot sets at a quid a pop, and elephant garlic for under 2 quid. Can't be bad.

Eyup son! Good news about the lottie! The Aldi bushes are named varieties too I believe. Wish I had room for some (wistful sigh!)

I would love to grow some black current & raspberry bushes, but not got any room to plant them unless I can grow them in pots, anyone grown fruit bushes in pots!! if so how big a pot would i need.

Raspberry not container suitable but apparently you can grow currants (black, white or red) in pots, just need to increase the size as they get bigger but the cheapies fruit bushes that you get are so tiny, I'm sure you don't need big pots to start with.

For me personally they're useless as un-named variety which is more important to me so that I know they're sweet enough for my household . Best red currant is Jonkheer Von Teet and best black are Big Ben<-Ben Connan<-Ben Sarek, I think but don't expect these from the cheapie stores.

Hi Jim, take the allotment then fill quarter of it with cheap Aldi fruit bushes. Black plastic or carpet mulch around them then forget about them and concentrate on clearing the rest of the lottie for some spring/summer sowings.

Two to three years time you will have more soft fruit than you know what to do with.

If your coming over Lavender, you can collect gooseberries from me, I have lots of bushes in pots.

Glad to report that PhantomVeg said they have Jonkheer vanTet and Big Ben - Glen ample rasps, Careless goosegogs at Aldi. They seem to be a decent deal.
