  • Weeded the back garden, harvest some 2 more red kuri squashes, harvested 2 marketmore cucumbers, harvested loads of french beans, picked 2 cougettes, picked 1 oversized korean summer squash and 1 good size squash, picked 4 romanian hot chillies, harvested 1 bowl of black berries, managed to hand pollinate my wax gourd and the yokohama winter squash and the rest has to wait till the rain stop, I was soaking wet... Brrrr cold ! Has freeze the french beans, and made 2 pots of black berry jam... yumm.
Later will be harvesting salsola, ijskraut and some herbs for salad and will be harvesting some new zealand spinach for dinner. Cucumber, courgettes and the korean squashes will be donating them to the in laws, they love them.

    • Weeded, weeded, weeded.

Shifted a trailer load of manure from one end of the plot to the other. Ouch arms are sore.

Harvested and weeded a little more.

One thing I am happy about, the swedes are really swelling nicely...

Pics on the blog of my son shifting manure, not a pretty sight...

      • Dug up some Maris Piper and Rooster tatties to check for size - okay dokey so shawed the whole lot. That's all my tatties shawed and safe from blight.
Dug up another crate of Charlotte.
Weeded some more of my parsley and radish drills

        • I spent an hour or so this morning stringing up the now dry maincrop onions and hanging them up out of the way, the rest of the morning was spent making plum jam and passata.

This evening was spent reloading everything back onto my pc now that it is better.

          • What a glorious day and I spent most of the afternoon on the plots. More razzers and blackberries were picked, as were courgettes, runner beans, fine beans a huge trug of tomatoes inc black heart and pink brandywine and the first bunches of grapes.

I actually got some more fennel in the ground along with lots more lettuce plantlets. Finally lots more strawberry runners were potted up.

            • Picked another thirty or so courgettes and my big cukes - took photos for virtual show - will get around to posting them sometime soon. Shame the courgettes have to be between 10 and 20 cm in length. Had a beautiful matching pair 22 cm long - never mind, the caterer liked them. Same with cukes - had to choose best matching pair from 4 picked for veg boxes - not the biggest of the four but a reasonable pair nonetheless.
Took some ladies from Portmahomack Gala Association on a wee tour - they were impressed by the size of my cukes and no mistake - much hilarity !!
More weeding and general tidy up of shed and tunnel.

                • Harvested a couple of cucumbers and a courgette. Eyed up a cauli for tomorrow .

Collected a 3ft pallet and some 4ft bits from freecycle and built a 3ft x 4ft raised bed for a square foot garden. Planted 4 squares of lettuce seedlings (8 red salad leaves and 8 ice king), 2 of kohl rabi and 6 of spring cabbage. Blogged.

                  • Me again...

Turned my pathetic summer hanging baskets (petunia and geranium that never quite got going) into autumn baskets (gentian and white violas).

Potted on 48 viola plug plants from Wilko. Half of them are yellow and half are... um... I forgot which colour I got and I got the boxes mixed up. All I know is that the ones on the left are one colour, 50% chance of being yellow, and the ones on the right are... umm...

Since I had ericaceous compost for the gentians I also sowed the gardenia seeds that nosferato kindly sent me. Hopefully they will germinate in the plastic planthouse before being potted on and brought in for the winter.

                    • OH made a compost bin for the new plot - it's most excellent. Dug a bit more of the new plot, and removed lots of weed roots. Tried out the new azada and azada fork thing - the fork thing is brilliant at getting out couch grass weeds and much easier on the back than forking.

Harvested: a variety of beans, courgette, two types of potato, multicoloured carrots, my first tomato of the year (had them by the beginning of July last year), two small heads of calabrese, and some radishes. Very happy

                          • Picked a load more beans, for this evenings bbq today, decided that the toms def. have blight and will be very dead, very soon. Finished off the block paving - a big relief!, picked a few of said blight ridden toms, and tidied up a little. Have seedlings to plant out later.

                              • Came back from holiday and set to work; first proper seed grown tom has turned red! picked peas, beas, carrots, beetroot, brocolli, blueberries for the weekend's food.
Emergency water for the strawberries, and herbs that i bought just before we went away [only last weekend] - wasn't expecting good weather whilst we were away or i would have planted them out. Also emergency water for the peppers, but they recovered petty quick. Picked some banana peppers [mild] and purple capsicums [hot] for tonight's dinner [B Peppers stuffed with garlic and ginger chili rice].
The rest of it was getting rid of the 2nd round of bean and pea plants as they are coming to the end, same goes for some courgettes that have had their day; lots of weeding, a couple of brocollis had to go - too covered in caterpillars to be an attractive edible prospect i am sad to say.
this leaves me with a few empty spaces, for the romanesco, mispoona, various lettuces and the herbs to go in tomorrow.
Finished my composter - started it the weekend our tree had to come down and it is the first day i have had to get it done - i am not a completer finisher so i am very happy to have that one sorted now - and it is in the ground this evening and already half full. Will make a lid tomorrow. Will spend the evening picking out splinters tho'
