This time last year took over a plot which was covered in weeds/grasses six feet high. As the previous encumbant had previously rotavated it and cut the existing dockleaves/couch grass into (what seemed like) a million smaller pieces which had shot up everywhere, initially strimmed it. We then left it over winter for the snow/frost to get to it and when the weeds started growing back, used Roundup on the lightweight weeds and used SBK (think thats what its called) which specially for brambles/docks etc. In March/April this year planted rhubard plants, raspberries (which are now in flower), grapevines (which will take several years to fruit). Also put on four large raised beds (as there had previously been an apple tree on the plot and its roots made it difficult to dug especially with it being clay soil) Planted these with carrots, strawberries, asparagas, lettuce, spinach which are now growing. A quarter of the plot is still to be dug with some bee friendly flowers and the weeds need attacking again. Although was a little disappointed that we couldn't plant anything at the end of last year, think clearing the weeds/preparing the raised beds/ground and planning what we was going to plant was the right thing to do in the long run.

The former is still, I suspect, an oxidizing agent (although not, I assume, used in as pure a form as sodium chlorate).
