Hiya and welcome...yup.you'll be fine here
No, don't dig them up, let them fruit, this year ha sbeen pants mostly. Your beetroot probably did germinate but were eaten by slugs, your pak choi will do better towards the end of the summer when it's cooler, and I'd still vote for the squash int he tunnel just because this year it's been too cold outside [so by accident, you have triumphed!!]

    have fun

just because we live in our own little bubbles, doesn't mean we're eccentric!

books are full of "general" info that's fine for "normal" years .... sometimes things don't go to plan .... this year has been really bad for me and all the veggies are late .... books won't take that into account ....
i'd suggest leaving your polytunnel stuff to harvest when you can, only clear something out when you've harvested it .... in the meantime, start winter veggies in pots etc outside and put them in the polytunnel when other things in the tunnel are finished

Hello and a very warm welcome to the Vine. Sounds like a very polite way of referring to us all as nutters and you could very well be right

Eccentric, ecclectic and electric. Any problems and some bright spark on here will give you an answer in a very short time. You're not the only person to suffer with problems in getting beetroot to germinate this year. I have a friend in the Midlands who has sown three times with fresh seed from different sources and he is still scratching his head as to why they have not germinated. It has just been the most difficult season. Be better next year, honest

                    Thanks Vince, "Hi, I'm Judy, and I'm a tomato-holic"

Yes, absolutely, squashes outside next year - I trimmed them this weekend. A bowl cut.

The germination in the polytunnel is awesome! ( my first attempt) i planted last Sunday and everything but the parsley is going well. Chinese cabbage, which i had no english instructions for just poked through overnight! The pak choi germinated in 3 days! Unbelievable.

I know its a late reply but I've been trying to login to the wrong website!

Hi people, I knew I'd fit right in here after trying for months to login and reset my password and then realised I was trying to login to an entirely different garden website!

So, this year I am off and running much earlier than last year, and I took advice and didn't put any courgettes in the polytunnel. I've got four out in the beds and one pumpkin. I lost a tray of pak choi to some evil looking grubs and then got neuorotic about the rest of the soil in the polytunnel (nobody told me that gardening is stressful when you have OCD)

I've just put courgettes out from the pt and we are hardening off stuff as its so fab this weekend - I even got sunburnt!

I also did my usual over sowing - this year its marigolds. I ended up with nearly 100, I just can't help myself

Some of you laughed at my 'marital bonding' exercise of building a pt last year - but we endured the hardship and now catch each other smiling while I boss him around.

I'm trying jerusalem artichoke and kohl rabi this year cos I've never tasted either of them.

                              Happy days
