Thanks guys
I'm sick and tired of tasteless supermarket rubbish so have decided to have a go at growing a few things myself to see how i get on, i've only got a little back yard and a few pots so won't be able to perform miracles but depending on how i get on i may look into getting an allotment in the future....

What would you suggest trying to grow firstly for a beginner like me? The only things i've tried in the past are spring onions (which were very successful) and carrots (which were a complete failure lol). I have a young lemon tree too that isn't doing too well due to cold weather we've had this winterOriginally posted by Pumpkin Becki View PostOh you'll be amazed just how much you'll be able to grow in a small space

Start with what you like to eat Nat, but quick suggestions would be:
Tomatoes - nice and easy, but will need a sunny spot to ripen the best.
Runner and French beans are great for small spaces, and with the right watering and feeding, you should get loads of crops.
Courgettes do well in containers - we find two plants enough for me and the OH for the whole summer.
You could have a look at the 'Square Foot Gardening' thread for ideas of what does well in small spaces.
Above all, enjoy it. Gardening is fun!

No it is in my conservatory for the winter but the temperatures got so low a couple of months ago (our water pipes in there froze too), I'm guessing it affected the tree as the newer parts of the tree have died off - do you know if I should cut the dead branches back or not?Originally posted by Two_Sheds View Post... erm, it's not outside is it?
