Lovely idea but unfortunately I can't. The front of my house is straight on to the pavement and our local council is a bit like a pitbull when it comes to blocking the pavement (unless its cars).
So far I have almost 100% germination. I planted far more than I need as I had such a big failure rate last year. I have friends who live on one of our new housing estates and have miniscule gardens but like to grow things but have nowhere to propagate them. They've already got dibs on some of the plants.Last edited by JanieB; 18-03-2018, 02:18 PM."I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)

Tried that. When I started a couple of years ago. I had little information notes ( about business card size ) in perfect fit, clear zip lock type bags ( like you get seeds in from some companies) stapled to each pot. Still didn't make much difference. My prices are always varied for different things. Ranging from 25P (usually herbs in very small pots or reduced stuff because I really don't want to plant them myself) to 1.50 ( the expensive stuff is chillies, unusual tomatoes and weird & wonderful). I've stopped selling chilli and tomato plants though . They never go on the barrow because they look cr@p after a couple of days ( bashed about by the wind and the cold, yes even in June, July & Aug!Originally posted by Snoop Puss View PostFor the less well-known stuff, might pictures or a description help? Plus charge extra, to make it seem a luxury?
) so I had a note saying come find me if you want chilli or toms, listing what I had available. No one ever did. So I've stopped. Apart from a couple of customers I grow to order for.

If you place any goods/items on public paths etc. you are meant to apply for a street license. I don't know of any councils that follow through on checking though.Originally posted by JanieB View PostLovely idea but unfortunately I can't. I used to live in a town south of Manchester. The town inspector there checked everything. Maybe the smaller the town, the more likely they are to follow up.Originally posted by Norfolkgrey View PostIf you place any goods/items on public paths etc. you are meant to apply for a street license. 2lb is a lot of tomatoes. Check the price and weight in your local shop and undercut it!Originally posted by Bacchus View PostHow much would a bag of standard tomatoes sell for from an honesty box -say 2lb? About 60p or so?
Presumably for the more fancy varieties you could have a "take one to try for free" bowl. Then when they're addicted put the price way up..

You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink. I remember selling off toms at a village show with lots of different varieties, perfectly ripe etc but struggled to get bids. However the under ripe moneymakers fetched the same price as in the shopOriginally posted by Bacchus View PostPresumably for the more fancy varieties you could have a "take one to try for free" bowl. So backing up VC really with the common stuff.
I would bag toms up, maybe 6 salad type or 4 beefsteak to a bag and ask 50p. Smaller quantities are likely to sell better. It only tends to be nutty gardeners who like their fruit and veg by the barrow full.
