You're right Flum, just looked at it, its horrible - far too difficult to read. I might save electricity but I'll end up needing to get glasses, whats their carbon footprint?

I think the Earth Hour is a brilliant idea and we'll definitely be turning the lights out. As for computers, my son in law works for a company who have invented a 'green' one which only uses the same amount of power as a 40 watt bulb, this is well past the R&D phase and should be available within a few months. They are going to market it at the same price as a basic 'normal' computer and they are hoping that this type of energy efficiency will be the norm in a few years in both homes and offices. Not being a techie I haven't a clue about the finer details, but I'm definitely going to be at the head of the queue when they become available. We've been attempting to reduce our family's energy consumption for some time now, and are not replacing any of the appliances which we can easily manage without, - I always thought that a tumble dryer was essential, after two months without one I now discover that it definitely isn't - and we only buy the most energy efficient of those which are necessary.

Right, I'm off for some candles and a bottle of red. Well, OH is on nights and I've got to pass that hour somehow.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I'm going to do "Earth Hour". All my bulbs are low energy and I never leave lights on if I leave a room.

We did Earth Hour- although by the looks of things none of our neighbours did!
Actually it was rather nice eating by candlelight!

We almost did earth hour - we turned off the extra lights around (have to leave toddlers nightlight and landing light on for safety) and were using candles on the dinner table.

I have blackle as my search engine normally, but it can be a pain at times as they don't have the links to Google news or Google scholar that I need sometimes, so have to revert back to main site. Works ok for me though mostly.

It only saves energy if you are using the CRT type of monitor though - on the new LCD ones it makes no difference (apart from sending you cross eyed).

Just realised that you are talking about the lights out thing favoured by the rest of Europe but not by the British councils! Bless, that would be because the doesn't come out of their pockets but ours!!
