Just saw the bluetit going for the hole loaded with a beak full of moss. I watched to see where it went afterwards , I was guessing for more moss.
    Found you !!

So it's the female that builds the nest, no surprise really

The female is still back and forth , occasionally I've seen the male call her over and feeds her.

Lovely, CG. The robin that nested in my winter clematis sucessfully raised 4 chicks, and even though they left the nest 18 days ago she is still taking mealworms and biscuit crumbs off to feed them, though not as frantically as in the first few days.

I have a hen blackbird doing the same, she must have nested somewhere nearby, but not in my garden.

Containergardener mothhawk How wonderful for you both! You are both so lucky to have nests this year.

I think I have a robin in his usual spot in the ivy/clematis combo with a nest box buried deep inside. But no blue tits this year, though they still feed and bathe here. Both boxes were investigated but they chose somewhere else.
I have to say it is a lot less stressful not having to avoid low flying blue tits all day!

We have a robin and a wagtail with nests in our open garage.
Been watching them flying back and forth with grubs in their beaks.
                Nice innit?

Each year we get a wagtail briefly , then a young one appears too. No idea where they nest though.

The bluetits are hard at it and I can hear the chirping from the nest box.

The chaffinchs too are chirping loudly now, mum in and out , dad stands guard chirping.

I've discovered (after being almost taken out by a low flying blackbird) that there is a nest in the flowering ivy.

I think the neighbour may have a chiffchaff nest as I keep seeing it in my garden, it was hanging on an aquilegia yesterday grabbing all the greenfly/aphids.

Then I saw the pied wagtail picking flies from the grass and fly off. I'm hoping a nest is somewhere and young will come to feed again.

I am envious of you both!
t's so lovely to hear the chirping, watch the parents taking in food and then seeing the little fledglings exploring our gardens.
I still have the parent blue tits feeding here. They are looking exhausted now, but despite that, they keep on going. Nature is pretty magical isn't it.

A bit of sad news about the bluetits nesting on the garage wall

Not sure , but it looks like the babbies have been ‘got’ by our woodpecker.
We’ve not checked them for a couple of days, so they may have fledged just in time…but it looks like a woodpecker has enlarged the entrance.

Oh no Nicos that's heartbreaking. I have to put hole protectors on all my boxes as the same thing happened to me one year.

I put metal protectors on ours because one box ended up with a big hole . Not sure if woodpecker though. Few yrs ago.
                                Hopefully they've fledged Nicos.
