When you should take your Christmas tree down.......and why!

I take mine down tomorrow because to me that's when it feels like Christmas is over and things get back to normal. It used to be much later when our children were small but now its up to the two of us.

I take ours down on Twelfth night, and am always a bit sad to pack it all away. The house looks so plain and bare without the decorations.

Tradition for us is up he weekend before Christmas and down 12th night. Just feels right.

Well, I nearly came a cropper this year. I usually have two trees one in a pot with a root,(this just comes in for Christmas, though this year I had to buy a new one) the other - a large fresh one for my living room. The saturday beforore Christmas I went to get it and they had pretty much sold out! Peeps seem to decorate much to early. Some houses near me had the decorations up in November!

Too late, ours came down yesterday! Have never kept them up til the 5th.

Should I stop using my Christmas mug and teatowel on the 5th or 6th?

Out of curiosity, how come you always take it down so early?

This year it's just when it fits in with everything else. Nice day today so have been to the plot and for a walk so would rather do that than take decorations down and clean up. We are out all day tomorrow and have visitors on Saturday. Sunday will be taken up with school work and once I'm back to school I don't have time for anything except the basics! ( eating, breathing) As school can start as early as the 2nd decorations are usually down before New Year.
OH was discussing this topic at work yesterday (not a lot of work done I think) and some people take decorations down on Boxing Day, which is a bit early, even for me.

I'm taking mine down tomorrow as it's in the way for new furniture I've bought. But normally it has to be down before I go back to work.

This is only the second time I've had decorations since the OH died. I've always put them up the nearest weekend before Christmas in the past, and they come down on twelfth night. The big problem has been disposal of the tree. A local business has a shredder in the market place but it's usually there before twelfth night on the first Saturday after New Year. Not a problem this year as it's an artificial tree, so twelfth night it is.

Usually Twelfth night, but this year it will be Monday as I'm off work so have the time to clean up as well. I find it sad, but necessary

Both of ours came down yesterday. The cat helped decided to dive bomb one of them, so we decided to take the other one down too.

Mine will come down on the 6th. Strange how my mother adopted the English customs so religiously. It is my elder brothers birthday on 7th Jan, and as a child he always had a huge family party. The decorations came down nevertheless on the 6th

Usually take ours down on the 6th January but this year, with it being the first year without my mother I felt a little sad and out of step with the Chritmas season.
Having said that, we got through it and enjoyed it for the most part.
