    Very much like ours!

But my youngest Daughter! And the very one last in the "Pod" at home!

Doesn't think twice of banging her clothes in the dryer and departs to do other things!

Never no more! Till this issue is sorted! ...............

My mum gave me her dryer when I got married and had babies to dry the nappies. My dad had bought it for her when myself and my siblings were weekly boarders and she only had the weekend to wash and dry our uniforms. It broke down three times over the years, the first time when my son dropped a fork into the filter and broke the fins off the fan. This was fixed by a friend who replaced the plastic fins with metal. The second time was a new belt and the last time was the death of the machine when the drum collapsed due to metal fatigue. That machine lasted over 50 years. It was made by Parnall.

It was replaced by one made by Hoover which lasted about 5 years. When I bought a new washing machine I bought a washer dryer to save space. When that went west last year I realised that I'd only used the dryer about 2/3 times so I haven't had a dryer since and I don't miss it.

A near neighbour had a dryer that caused a fire last year. I haven't asked her but I presume it was one of those that were on recall. It was kept in the cellar. The worrying thing is that we are an old terrace and the timbers holding us all together run from house to house. Had she not been at home the fire could have spread across the neighbours houses.

I have a problem with the suggestion that the machines affected should not be left alone, apart from the boredom of keeping it company, many people are still on economy 7 tariffs which means their electricity is cheaper at night. Are they really expected to stay up to keep an eye on their dryer?

This has been a very long short reply.

Missed this thread (somehow). Just checked ours and it's on the list, many thanks Potty.
Thank goodness the filters have always been cleaned prior to every use.

I'm worried about people if they're still using these machines! I was reading about the dust collecting around the heating element which is at the back of the machine, needs unscrewing to get to it,it's quite awkward. My old machine stopped working so I checked the element & it was broken, but when I unscrewed it,dust gets all inside these things. I was talking to my sister (she has one of the defected machines & been told the shops should replace them if they're within warranty, out of warrant she has to pay 99 for a replacement) she was wondering if there was a fire would it still be covered by house insurance because of everyone being aware of the problem? Also if a fire does start you need a fire extinguisher for electricals? Its safer to dry things over the door etc I did when mine stopped working for about a year or two,I don't like to spend money every few years on these machines......

I don't like insurance companies so my view is biased.

But I would bet my last dollar that they would use the fact of prior knowledge to get out of paying......

They got in touch with me and told me that will be repair in April but I opt to buy a brand new machine at 59pound instead 240. I thought considered the price better a new one than having my repaired. They also delivered installed it and recycle the old one.

Got a letter this morning asking me to call to make an appointment to have the tumble dryer modified. Only a month later than they initially estimated.

We were scheduled for a repair in November but the machine was 8 years old so we opted for a replacement at a cost of 59. It arrived three weeks ago and they took the old one away.

Well I'm not the only one who is having a confusing day today! I called the company who sent me the letter regarding the tumble dryer modification. Only doing weekend appointments for this but next one will be 22 May, thanks I'll take it. Contacted H@tp@int regarding washing machine, they emailed me to make an appointment...6 May, brilliant! They then emailed to make an appointment for tumble dryer modification for 20 May, apologising they couldn't make the two appointments for the same day. On double checking both appointments are for the tumble dryer so I now have 3 appointments for the dryer and none for the washing machine!! Back to the drawing board!
