Other than Royalty the records for the Clergy are probably as good as it gets although I have the odd will left by farmers and property owners going back to that period - I was fortunate to find the Prestwick Burgh records commenced in 1470 although, unfortunately, a gap from 1600-1700 when some of the records were sent to Edinburgh in the late 1700's to determine who were the Real Freemen in Prestwick means that getting back further to determine when Freedoms were handed down from father to son is virtually impossible. In my own case my 4xggfather was deemed to be one of the 36 Real Freemen and I can get back to his grandfather in the late 1600s but the loss of these records stops going back any further other than by guesswork to connect the generations - on the basis of names I could claim connection back to early 1500's and possibly even to 1470 when the records first began but we do this kind of thing at our peril as the Family Tree records on Ancestry have proved time and time again :-)Last edited by Sheneval; 11-08-2015, 12:40 PM.Endeavour to have lived, so that when you die, even the undertaker will be sorry - Puddinghead Wilson's Diary

That's great Shen...not sure I will ever be able to trace anyone that far back.
Well it's kind of dull and a wee bit breezy...not cold though. I have the back door and front window open so getting a nice breath of fresh air in here which it badly needs with two smelly dogs and...no I will resist the son bit!
Gas board were coming today to service the boiler between 2pm and 4pm...he arrived at 1.20pm!! How's that for service! I hate hanging around for tradesmen always seems to be a wasted day.sigpic

Good morning Joan.
I tried chasing my ancestors once, they got to 1026, then it all went pear shaped
due to leaves on the line
I didn't get where I am today by not knowing the dangers of leaves on the line. said CJ entering through a open side doorHe who smiles in the face of adversity, has already decided who to blame

1026 is a bad time - I never go to bed before midnight - that way you can have a bath and still get to see all the good films :-)Originally posted by bearded bloke View PostGood morning Joan.

Mind you if Reggie had stayed up later he would have been too tired to go walking on the beach that morning and we would have missed a great series

Evening folks!
A disappointing evening at the Hill tonight - for a start, I dug up spuds which are in various stages of dying off and the crop is poor.
Then I managed to partially shear the stainless steel bit of my Spe@r and J@ckson fork - I'll post a pic tomorrow so you can all admire my massive strength and hold me in awe
.
Also, the club house which should have been 'open mic night' aka exceptionally talented musicians entertaining all and sundry for the princely sum of 2 quid) has been cancelled due to holidays.
I did see a fellow plotholder who cut me a bunch of dahlias to bring home, though, so that was nice.
Tempting (Temptations?) - but no ta, BB - it's a school day tomorrow, after all.Originally posted by bearded bloke View PostHey vine cruisers, if you want some sounds while catching up on the days posts checkout ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DDQMqiOOi4 ... for a great selection of motown tracks

Susieq, you are going to be in my neck of the woods. Give me a wave.
Family history. My grandma's family were descended from one of William's knights to whom he gave a large part of Yorkshire. As such they were literate. My grandpa was descended from the ostlers of the Scottish royal family and if not literate themselves their employers were."I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)

Morning all. Looks as if its going to be a nice day here again. So plan on action is to go to allotment and plant the raspberry bushes. I know I've said it for the past three days and every time I plan it something happens and its a change of plan. So going down early before anyone phones or texts me.
Also going to see if my runner beans are ready to be picked.
Have a good day everyone
