slicing apples , what to use

I am having difficulty evenly slicing apples for hydrating ,is there a tool
braeburn apples are good and not too expensive from Croydon market but cant get the slices uniform
a mandolin slicer comes to mind but not sure about the thickness and the corer I have is too narrow, any suggestions

Mandolin slicers can be adjusted to cut from paper thin to much thicker.

If using a mandolin slicer watch your fingers, it hurts as I found out. And bits of sliced dingy tend to put folks of the salad.

Get a fork, stick it in the apple and then slice in between the prongs. OK you have to re-jab every couple of slices but after a while you should be able to get uniform slices. If you can find something similar with loads of prongs.

I've not really had a problem with the un-uniform thickness, I check every whenever, remove the ones that are done and, over time, consolidate my trays into one easy to check tray.

I dry apple slicers in my dehydrator and I use something like this Apple Master in corers hullers and stoners at Lakeland. I'm pretty sure mine was about half the price but it makes perfect slices for drying. It's a bit tricky lining up the corer part but still much easier than doing it all by hand.

Mandolin is going to cost that much (or not work well!) Very sharp blade that is slow to blunt and IME worth buying a decent brand.

been having a good look around and yes your right maybe if I find one with removable blades I could sharpen them when needed

Dunno if you can sharpen them, but certainly on mine I can swap it round as the blade is double-sided (but only one edge "presented" for cutting)

I winced, at the price , and bought a good quality one, but thrilled with it. It has a flat blade, that slices, which is fitted horizontally and an optional comb blade, with vertical teeth, which then creates Julienne. 3 different comb blades provided, with different widths.

Finger guard a bit useless, can't easily anchor it securely to the chunk of vegetable. I've seen better box-shaped ones in which you can easily support the last snippet of a piece of vegetable, can't find an image right now though.

Alternative is this one (which is quite a bit bigger, and might suit Apples / Onions etc better as I doubt they will fit the smaller one unless they are cut smaller than halves)
