  • When to move a rose cutting?

    Hi Everyone.
Last May i received a rose from DA. It was already over 2 foot tall and in flower.
While removing it from its box i snaped one of its branches off I popped it into one of my containers at the very edge out the the way and forgot about it.
Mid summer I noticed some growth, late summer it grew about a foot. This year its grown another foot and has a few buds showing..
My question, is it safe to move it now to a better location?

Yes, as long as you keep it well watered. Pot grown plants can be replanted any time of year, and roses are tough critters anyway.
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

Should be fine to move it now. Pot grown roses can be shifted pretty much any time as long as you water it in well and keep it from drying out for the first few weeks. It's already shown it can root and grow so it's tougher than it looks.

        Thanks all for your feedback.

        Moved rose to pot.

Was worried as It had been pushed into a large container last summer, would not have worried if it had been a small pot as I could just remove from one pot and move to the new one. Having to dig it up worried me so had my fingers crossed.

Anyway after four days its looking fine.

Should i remove the buds (it has two now) or leave it as is?

        Thanks
        R

Good to hear it worked out. Digging out of a large container is always a bit nerve-wracking but roses are pretty resilient once they've got roots going.

UPDATE: 2 weeks on and the rose plant is looking fine I removed 2 of the 3 buds to let the energy go into growing new roots, not sure if i needed to do that or not. The 1 bud i left on has opened so I'm taking that as a good sign, said with fingers crossed

            Thanks again for the replies.
