If you don't remember what a choke was on a car then you are definitely a young un.
(I am not old enough to remember dip switches either).

The worst choc. bar for shrinking is wagon wheel! Its not a wagon wheel it is a pram wheel for a dolls house

Our first mini had a manual choke, it was not labelled and was next to the heater knob. OH got them mixed up constantly, so we often drove around in winter freezing after I had to bump start the car.

What about the yellow indicators that used to pop out of the side of the car, when you wanted to turn a corner? Sometimes they'd get stuck and you'd have to tug them out, or shove them back in their little slot
Does anyone do hand signals now? Polite ones that is

Me... Ern On a hump back bridge, on yellow lines, at or near a junction.
Examiner... And where have you just parked?
Me... Erm at a junction.

You forgot in front of a bus stop yes I did do that.

I almost ran over a cyclist once as well during a test. I didn't have the heart to tell the examiner I didn't have the foggiest what he was on about.

To think they finally gave me a driving licence

Mine went something like this :-
Turn right at the next junction..........


Pull over to the side of the road................


Do you realise you turned left when you should have turned right

(me - stutters, stammers .............Sorry)

Him - I'm going to forget everything you've done wrong so far, and start all over again............


Then he started chatting to me as I drove, asking me about my holidays, telling me I was his last test before he went on leave, so there was no hurry for me to finish my test.

I drove back to the test centre and there was just a weeny little place to park at the roadside - and I made a right pig's ear of it I thought I'd completely blown it, car's nose sticking out in the road etc.

Examiner - Parking is not part of the test but I want you to go home and find 2 large cardboard boxes and practice parking between them.................

In our villiage we had a woman (Mrs payne) who held the British record for the number of failed driving tests (well over 40 i think) . On one of her tests the examiner had not come out to her and so she went in and found him having his tea break. She tore him a strip off for keeping her waiting" (Another fail).

I bought my girl friend ( now my wife) driving lessons for her 18th Birthday. The instuctor died the day after her first lesson!!! The damn thing was I had paid for a full course but didnt have the heart to ask his widow for my money back.

When you have to type in some memorable information you know like the word cat. 1 is c, 2 is a and 3 is t. Well you know when your old when you can't remember it and when you do you type it in wrong. Then you end up having to count on your fingers to get the correct letter or number. Took me 3 attempts this morning to log into the bank. I have had the same account at the same bank for the past 5 years.
