Aaaaaaaarternoooooon Peeps. Warm sunny morning, warm sunny afternoon. Start work, heavens opened. Twice. Soaked to the skin, so gave up and came home. All my tools are wet and muddy, as are my coat and boots. No rain at home, so the laundry on the line is dry! Woooooohoooo!

We've had rain and sunshine on and on all day, i did get a bit done in between so it wasn't all bad. plus i managed to pick the chard for tea just before the next down pore

Evening All
Its been a sunshiny day here - really warm - but I had to cover up against nettle and bramble attacks as I was clearing the overgrown fruit jungle.
Loads of buds and baby fruits forming - just the thought or wandering through the canes, browsing on raspberries makes me happy
Hope we're all smiley tonight

I cut some canes in half and used them to build a raised retaining ring out of wire for the cardoon to reduce the large outer leaves collapsing on other plants. In the process, I managed to kick over the pot full of compost and chicken plop I was preparing for one of the giant leeks I've run out of wire for doing the other one for the globe artichoke, so that's another job for later

Good sunny day here with just a sprinkling of rain. Was able to get out and weed the onions, cekeriac, strawberries and clear an overgrown flower border.
All that and walked for an hour, collected two grand kids from school, fed them and then took them to the library and the ice cream parlour.

Smiley, VC? No not really, my ruddy Chooks are refusing to go to bed until late dusk. I've been out there three times this evening, and the little wotsits have been ignoring my pleas. It may have something to do with the bad language coming from Broody Judy in the sin-bin - jeeeez she's in a nasty mood at the moment.

Just got in from a totally absorbing seminar by a dog psychologist and companion dog specialist at the local Dogs' Trust. This is the second time I have heard her speak and she really has some interesting ideas on training up dogs to be good companions, not working dogs.

Of course I had to try some ideas out on Rosie as soon as I got in- so we just had a happy half hour of 'come', 'sit', 'down' 'close' 'touch' 'paw' 'high five' and 'catch' 'watch' and 'wait' - all with the biscuits I give her for supper

She just loves to learn this one

Think I would have done a lot better at school too if biscuits were the reward instead of gold stars

One of my dogs is quite good with commands (notice I said "quite"!) He will sit, down, touch - and If you ask him what he wants he will often run to it and look longingly... or jump on your knee and squish you. Can be annoying when out walking though, he is that keen on telling you he wants his tennis ball his nose is permapressed against your hand.

I am so pleased with Rosie because a) she was a rescue and Veggiechicken helped me to get her
b) we had no idea what kind of Springer she was and she had had a 'bad start' and c) she is way smarter than I have ever experienced before - my previous dog was a Springer / Lab cross and she was totally laid back and a bit dim
I love having a clever dog - trouble is my blood pressure doesn't. Hey we can't have everything

Both mine are rescues too. We call them Pinky and the Brain... Not sure if you know of that particular cartoon?

It was interesting to hear about the key motivators for specific breeds from this lady - I like a nice learning theory, me.
