Thanks BB. That is/was the tidy part of the back garden - I've done very little there this year. I really need a couple more of those crates........
This is the sunniest bit of the garden as all the rest has tree cover so now, I have about 36 sq ft of sunny, deep, stone free ground just waiting to be planted up Magic!!

Today, another motley pair of crates appeared, and a great pile of soil that was a flower border. Its full of bulbs and corms and who knows what I've picked out as many as I could but with a Gungho lad barrowing and shovelling the soil into the crates I must have missed lots. It'll be interesting to see how much of it grows.
The lazy bit of me says that, if I constructed a raised bed around the soilheap, I wouldn't have to move it elsewhere

That's it - I've given up for the day. The crates are approx. half full. I'll give them some mpc to bring the level up a bit more and then, its planting time

I'm worn out already! I have until tomorrow to take what soil I want from a mound at the side of my house. I either barrow it out of next door onto the road and back into my garden - or perch on top of the mound, shovelling soil into a trug, carrying it up 4 steps, into the barrow and around to the pallets. The latter push is the shortcut but more difficult. Yep - that's what I'm doing
Forget all the nice blending in liners too - ones blue the other's white' cos that's all I have - and they were full of grass cuttings

Followed link ahhh,I guess different firms have different sizes.I shall nag Huws Gray next time I go to their yard

Tell yer what VC,Don't slash the bottom, half fill it & set celeriac in it with a fleece cover,I reckon the slow drain through the "fabric" keeping the soil moist for ages after a soaking will be great growing condition for them & the fleece cover will keep celery fly off

I'm really pleased as I've been pondering whether or not to have raised beds on the "lawn" - so this is a cheap way of trialling it.
Also, a builder's bag is a perfect fit as a liner

    Them pallets look good VC
I have a few like them and they are great for all sorts...I currently have one as an outside table for potting on, hardening off plants etc, one full to the brim with strawberries and one acting as a compost bin...

Thanks Stan. I was afraid that would be the answer as they don't seem to sell them anymore. Seems such a waste of a drill and all the accessories if you can't replace the battery

Only Wickes ones are likely to fit.
