Good luck Chicken. Have you got a saw to saw through them to make them into two the same. It sounds very hard work. I wouldn't try it but i've got arthritic shoulders and sawing hurts them. I like giving things a good bashing with a hammer though.
Anyway, good luck x

Pallets - daft question!

Sounds logical. Mr VVG has just built me two beds at home. He bangs four pegs in and screws board to the pegs. He buys them from Harlows Timber I think. We need a trip to Wales. Look at my Twitter - I will stick a pic up.Originally posted by veggiechicken View PostIf I paid to have raised beds built I'd want it done with proper wood - not a botch job with old pallets. If they're a mess and fall apart it doesn't really matter! Looking at them tonight though, they're all completely different in size and construction so I thought that if I could cut one pallet into 2 horizontally, that would give me 2 matching sides, and do the same to another pallet, for the opposite 2 sides. I know what I mean..............

Dunno VC, wouldn't cutting them be harder than dismantling? The thing is, ifyou try it and it does't work out how you wanted it then nothing lost other than your time
(and maybe a temper)

I would dismantle them completely then rearrange thwm into the size raised bed I wanted, using the square(ish) block on the inside corners to fix em together, or posts. I used screws on mine but I am sure nails would do? My idea of diy is usualy paying someone else to do it. It's only since being made redundant lst year I really got into doing more than just the decorating myself!

I saw them banging in posts alongside pallets on Beechgrove and then they screwed through the pallet into the post. One at each corner.
I wouldn't try to dismantle. Can't you hire some muscle? I'm all for women doing it for themselves but haven't you enough on?!

Pallets - daft question!
Imagine you are not at all practical - but you have several pallets, all different shapes and sizes, and you want to make mini raised beds from them.
Should you (that is Me),
1. leave them as they are and not try to dismantle them,
2. try to saw through the middle of the blocks to separate them into 2 halves (
3. if its a 6 plank pallet, try to saw it into 2 x 3 plank sections.
and even if I got that far, should I join them up again with nails or screws (bearing in mind that I've never used an electric drill
)
I'm looking for the simplest way - if I could use clothes pegs, paper clips and elastic bands it would be within my capabilities........
