it is commercialised but bah humbug. Some of us enjoy pampering our loved ones

Nothing wrong with that if you want to, it's being TOLD to want to that gets me and the fact that we're also being told what gifts we want to receive rather than people just doing nice and thought out things (that might cost nothing) because they want to. Probably not explaining myself very well but I really don't see what it's got to do with love at all.

One of my only Valentine cards from my OH was written on a couple of pieces of loo paper folded, like a card, along the perforations!...yeh

We saw an advert last night that suggested if he bought a �5 pound bunch of roses "He must love me", if he bought a �10 bunch "He must really love me" etc.

That's a good example about the rubbishness of it all, more flowers does not equal more love, if you want to show you love somebody do something that they'd really like and that could be as simple as making them a cuppa when they look tired, noticing the rubbish needs to go out etc - you know those lovely little touches.

wowee Nicos, your OH really knows how to treat a girl . I always give my lady 2 doz red roses(only a fiver per dozen at T***O.) and a nicely worded card. She's told me to only make it a dozen this year mind. It will make me feel like a cheapskate if I do that. The flowers last a remarkable long time as well and it makes her feel special. Nuff said

You see I'd not want a) roses (don't like them much, would much rather have a bunch of homegrown daffs although don't really do flowers much as prefer a living plant) and b) don't do T*sco but the media tells me that's what I should want. If it works for you and Mrs AP then great but I'd hate OH to feel that he had to do the same as it's just not us (and would set off his hayfever anyway )

It's a big deal in the States - it bit much fuss for me - but I love how they make it a special day for everyone, decorate the house etc. Yeah...I know it's commercial...but, hey!

Oh God, is that what we've got coming - they must hardly ever have their houses normal over there now between Christmas lasting about 6 weeks, Halloween now being out of hand and for all I know Easter bunnies jumping everywhere.............

Yup, and they do Easter, July 4th, Thanks Giving, Super Bowl night.......they love any excuse for a hoolie!

We're cheep-stakes every birthday and Anniversary or Valentines day we just get the same cards out of the drawer then when they start to look a bit tatty I make new ones.

Not sure what we will do, probably very little this year as we are busy enough rushing around as it is..will be enough romance next week

That's usually all we manage! Might not even manage that this year as OH seems to have a stinking cold/virus!

Neither of us are fussed over the whole Valentine thing fortunately. I don't like the idea from that advert that how much anyone loves anyone else is being measured by how many overpriced flowers they buy!

I have just made chocolate brownies.
They might last til tomorrow. It is the thought that counts though isn't it?

Got my OH a heart shaped cheese and bottle of beer and a card.
I also got my daughter a card from the cat () so she doesnt feel left out (shes 9)

I am working and so is my OH, and our wedding anni is quite nearby, so we tend to celebrate that more.

I am not expecting anything in return, just the pleasure of watching the guilty expression on his face!

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the day we got engaged. We will celebrate 50 years of our engagement. And yes, we got married just under 2 years later.
We will have a champagne breakfast, a nice lunch and a lovely steak dinner by candle light.
Not many more events to celebrate so we take every oppertunity.
