                    Happy birthday Snadge.
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

Many thanks to all for your birthday wishes.

I had no idea what a gimmer was,and whether it was good or bad, as round here it means something completely different. Round here, if you get your gimmers on something you espy it or spot it.
Anyway I googled gimmer and got this.

Old Gimmer | The Yorkshire Garland Group

Had a listen and it just about sums it up (although its from the wrong county).............auld git in other words.

Among other things, I Got some nice hand made birthday cards from the grandbairns (I play heck if they spend money on me!) A nice choccy cake and a pair of brilliant wide braces with tractors on them (A La Tommy Walsh!) from my daughter
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Yes, I was a bit confused too - to me a gimmer is a female sheep before she's had her first lamb!

Sounds as if you're having a good birthday though!
