Sounds like a wise choice to me too. Their mates are as important as their teacher. An unhappy child isn't going to be as receptive to learning as a happy one.
I don't know how much time you have but even if you don't think becoming a governor is your thing, I would suggest trying to get involved with the school, even if it's just going in to listen to children read. My guess is, if Boo is doing so well, it has something to do with you...maybe your 'services' are just what her class needs
