I've heard them called armpits before... BUT we did buy the person who we heard it from a sub to GYO... This was before we were into growing fruit + veg!

So, Paulottie is responsible for coining the phrase. Good bit of detective work that Zaz, you partnering up with Nicos as the new Cagney and Lacey? The only place I call them armpits is on here, but never hairs, yeuk.

To be honest, despite mum and dad growing tomatoes, along with most of my relatives, I had never heard sideshoots referred to as armpits before joining the vine. I still refer to them as sideshoots, armpits give me such a 'not nice' feeling. On another point, I've got around 15 plants rooted from my sideshoots to plant up the allotment this weekend, all in flower, so thanks to the grape that brought that idea to me (even if he/she did refer to them as armpits)

Sideshoots here as well . Took me a while to figure out what on earth you guys were talking about the first time I saw 'armpits' in a thread title in the veg board (and I didn't dare ask because I just knew it would be something simple - like, urmmm, sideshoots ).
