OK OK I hold my hands up this dry spell is all my fault.

Early in March I bought my first ever water butt only had two showers since then.

We have thunder storms forecast for the midlands tomorrow so I might just get some water in the butt at least that will stop it blowing all over the place.

Yeah, like that's gonna happen!!!

Our usual supply of sawdust has also dried up as one of the chaps there is using it themselves; selfish ***. Usually, I'd be mulching all over the shop with it.

What's wrong with 1976?

I'm on the other side-every time I see the forecast at work I'm thinking "why these b***ers down south have always 10 degrees more and sunshine while I'm blue on my face and as soon as I'm off work ready to do some gardening is p**ing down"?

It's not good when drought or flood strikes,but the temperatures...I miss warmer summers,up to 32 degrees is fine to me(with low air humidity).I said to OH today-I wouldn't mind such summer with a good rain overnight twice a week.
I asked about summer 1976 because that's when I was born

We've only had proper access to our new plot for the last 2 weeks and OH has (with great effort) weeded and dug over 3 beds so far. It's heavy clay so there are huge solid clods still despite multiple raking/bashing at them. Luckily we have some rotted horse muck in bags at home and a couple of daleks of home made compost. These were supposed to be for home use but it looks like the need is far greater at the plot.

I have four raised beds of dust, waiting for potatoes to be planted.

I was 13 in 1976 - fab summer, not a care in the world - best ever!

Many of us down our lotties have 1000 litre tanks bought from a scrapyard for 15 quid each. They are very thick plastic with a tap in the base and in a metal cage (mine once was full of fish oil). It has never run dry as its fed from the shed roof and as its at the high point of the plot i just conect the hose pipe and trickle feed what ever needs watering (not much pressure) or fill the tubs lower down.
I go down most morings at first light in hot weather to water my crops.
All our plots are heavy clay so we add loads of hos muck, spent hops and shredded paper each winter.

still no rain. I'd never thought of the day I would be glad for a proper rainstorm. I'm going to go out and do some gardening in a bit but I fear I may be able to kill the electric tiller trying to get the clay to a fine tilth

Nope a drop here and yep, heavy soil clay I've a budlia that's sitting in the very last of the water in my barrel (it looks very happy oddly enough) and I had to use a ground breaker (5ft iron pole with pointed ends) to plant my last shrub. I have had to cut my bamboo down to 1ft to help it survive.

On the plus side, when I build my raised beds I'll be making lots of watering tubes with my left over water bottles so it should be easier to water them at least. can't wait

WAAAAAAA - I WANT RAIN.

To console ourselves, Mr Z is paying for a takeout - I love that man!!!

We haven't even had the thunder It's gone quite a bit cooler though, so I suppose that means we aren't getting it at all now
