where did the extra day come from

Come on you lot thinking caps on please,everybody knows there are (except for leaps) 365 days in a year,breaking that down..

7 (days in a week) X 52 (weeks in a year) = 364

So,where did the extra day come from

It's always been there, it's the division into 7 day weeks that came later! (although the accuracy of measurement has improved a lot over time) That is probably why the Druids used the position of the sun to tell them when midsummer had arrived.
