  • French (mainly) Concert Venue

Hello all. I need to book some tickets for a concert, but all of the venues are unknown to me. Can anyone help out with guiding me to the 'nicest' one please? By 'nicest' I mean the smallest, most intimate one (I know this is relative). Not terribly bovved about the surrounding area - it's getting the concert atmos right that I'm interested in. I've had a Google, but if anyone's got first hand knowledge, that'd be grand.

    Thanks!

I am about an hour away from Cournon so if you visit, you could pop in for a cuppa. Sorry, no idea about the venue though.

Been to the Forest National in Brussells - albeit quite a long time ago (Saw U2 there in 1984) - its quite a large venue about the size of the NEC.
I enjoyed it but you've had it if you want a good view and you have seats at the back (unless, like I was then, you are quite athletic and dont mind climbing!!)

        Hope that helps

they all sound large to me ...i've been to the Zenith in Toulouse which is like a warehouse so suspect the auvergne one will be similar.

Le Libert has a big concert hall and a small one. What were you thinking of going to see? My son lives in Rennes so I can get his opinion if you can give me more info. You can pop in here for tea too! You'll feel right at home with all us french grapes hahaha

I think I'm going to the one in Rennes next time I'm home. Mme P mumbled something about something when I left home, I shall ask her what she was mumbling about.
If not, I will know peeps who have been there so will ask for you.
If you do go there, you can pop into me for a cuppa after PN.

I didn't mention that bit did I? It's Charles Aznavour. I don't mind if I'm mocked, I think his songs are wonderful

So very many thanks for the kind offers of tea and meet-ups - will definately take you all up on as many as possible. And yep, any updates on venues as you get them would be most appreciated.

And not a word to Mr R...he doesn't know yet.

I don't think you could go wrong with a concert like that. But, I wouldn't hesitate to book - I can't see the tickets hanging around for long bearing in mind it's his last concert. According to the blurb, even at 87 he still has a great voice. What a legend! Lovely surprise for your OH!

Just had another thought, Rhona. I don't know the other towns, but I do like Rennes. It's a university town so there are lots of inexpensive places to eat and drink. There is a Rue de la Soif (!!!) probably best avoided late on a Saturday night hahaha. Public transport is excellent. Shops are quite interesting.
Here's a link to the tourist website so you can see what's available.
