No chance,last time everything was state owned,now its all been privatised and too many people are worried about their jobs and paying that mortage.Most homes were rented before the right to buy came in

I'll back any industrial action. I hope the unions are getting their plans together as we speak.

I'm also behind marches and demos, but these have less impact.

We need to show the Condems that we are not happy.

i remember the power cuts, and other (hard-up) times when we were cut off! it wasn't that big a hardship as family was all around so it was fun ( not sure if parents felt the same, but they went through ww2, so i expect they were used to it )

i have my collection of antique and vintage paraffin cookers and heaters, and a little old caravan and if i have to live in it, i will survive, and as someone just said, i too grew up with strikes, and if it gets to the point where i am homeless because i can't pay my rent, i will go on the road, and no doubt participate in peaceful strikes on the things i feel strongly about. ( not so much a new age traveller, as an old age traveller!!!)

does anyone remember how people lived after ww2? i seem to recall being told of families living in chicken huts, in downed airplanes, old railroad cars.

This is damning- 6 months into a new Tory mob in govt and there is talk of mass demos and strikes!

oh, i forgot- it is illegal to take to the roadside nowadays unless you can prove you or your family have lived like that for the last 15-20 years! i am not sure which gov. made that ruling, but i think it was tories, in the early 90's. so even if it comes to that, and people are made homeless, for whatever reason, you will just get into trouble for taking the incentive to helping yourself.

in all previous historical times of hardship, lack of jobs and housing, people have always took to the road, rather than get into debt, but i guess that's another right which has been taken away from us, so that we will all conform to a percieved slot.

I remember that mother, with a big dose of wartime make do and mend, rose to the occasion of the 70's 3 day week and power cuts. Battery radio, parrafin camping stove, hay oven, and gas mantle light were all pressed into service. Luckily we had wood and coal fires and hot water bottles!

Firstly, the student protest ~ I am supportive of all peaceful protests and even civil disobedience that doesn't cause harm to persons. Windows can be replaced. Those students were peacefully protesting and it got hijacked by some anarchists, but even then, there wasn't any serious damage caused. There was only a handful of bobbies standing between the protesters and the building and 99% of the people stayed outside the building. If it had been seriously anarchistic, then that building would have been raised to the ground!
The BBC was on the phone to people inside the building and they weren't in the least bothered by what was going on outside, it was reported only afterwards that they were 'shocked and upset' by the activity. What a load of tosh!
Secondly, I hope that enough of these events take place that a vote of no-confidence is taken on this current government. They are punishing the poor for the actions of the rich banks. As usual the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. They are going to force people into getting jobs? Show me where the jobs are for these people. It is almost impossible to find work these days.
