House plants, kill them with alarming regularitory so just do not bother any more, i either over under, under water, too much sun, too little sun. Can never get it right.

On to my third sowing of beetroot, can't get the darn things to grow at all, and with flowers it's carnations that don't like me so they sulk and die.

We must be related. Every year I try and try again with beetroot. It's a good job I enjoy marble sized ones and tops.

i have also noticed that is is the things i really want, and so keep trying to grow, that i have no luck with- gooseberries, pumpkins, foxglove, hollyhock, and clematis, dont appear to want to be ascoiated with me

I had ONE good year of garlic about five years ago but have had no joy with it since!
Its not for the want of trying though! I've planted in spring/summer and autumn. I've used shop bought and 'proppa' stuff from the GC. I've planted at various depths, I've started in modules, direct sown but still fail miserably!

Wish I could remember what I did RIGHT that year?

You probably just stuck them in the ground and thought "We'll see".
