    Dick Francis :( RIP

    Oh, I'm really miserable I just heard on the radio that he died. I know it's not quite the same as losing a family member, but, I feel like I've known him since I was little - my mom read his books from almost the first one, and I've been reading them (over and over) since I was about 13.

    Bless the man, I really do hope he rests in peace.

    Off to read through my old favourites.

    I loved his books too. Even though you could guess the ending before you got halfway through, they were still good escapism! RIP Mr. Francis.

      I thought about you Sarz when I heard this sad news, I remember you saying how much you liked his books. My OH has read and re-read them all too. RIP.

        My Mum, among millions of others, loved him. He'll be missed.
        A good beginning is half the work.
        Praise the young and they will make progress.

          I only started reading him about five years ago - my dad lent me his massive collection. I found the 'love scenes' a bit ... well... clunky (for want of a better word), but they were sooo readable in all other respects.

          I loved the one about the Diamond mine in South Africa.

            I know what you mean about the 'love scenes' Becki, but they are from a bloke's perspective most of the time....

            I like the old ones the best, that are more centred around the racing rather than the peripheries. 'For Kicks' is one of my favourites, where the fella from Australia goes undercover as a scruffy stable lad.

            I just, very naughtily, ordered a set of his books from The Book People... I do already own them, but, a good few of them are falling apart from over-use now, so I shall have a nice set of shiny ones. The OH will go bananas, but heigh ho...

              I was really sad to read he'd died in the paper today He was one of my favourite authors I think I must have practically every book

                Any I haven't got now, I had once, but haven't yet replaced after so many dissappeared in the fire.
                I wonder whether Felix will carry on writing. The ones he helped with were pretty good, you couldn't see the join!
                Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
