Was watching Chris on the Andrew Marr show yestermorn and he explained that he doesn't actually select the music (as I presume is the case with all Radio Presenters - oddly not called DJ's so much anymore), there's a dude that does that for him.

I guess the playlists have to be pre-approved.

Like Piskie, I adore Freebird, and gave up Radio 1 aeons ago - I jumped ship to Virgin 1215 when that was launched, although it's now changed it's name to Absolute Radio. I listen in the car, as the music is usually fantastic. But the adverts drive me mental, and I can't stand Christian O'Connell who is on in the morning, so it's going to be great to have Chris Evans on instead.

I still think Steve Wright is one of the best presenters ever though, and will listen to him above all others, and I agree that Simon Mayo just doesn't have 'it' whatever 'it' is - I find him a bit lifeless.

Whilst I have Mr Mayo to thank in part for my venture into allotmenteering (via The Big Dig programme), I agree. He's not the most charismatic of radio "personalities".

have not listened to R1 for ages due to the to**er they have in the mornings, i switched off when he was forced to apologize to someone for being rude to them in the name of 'comedy' then proceeded to make fun of them whilst apologising.

I actually resent the fact that he is paid for by my licence fee.

I'm with HW 6music is my prefered choice, and I am constantly irritated that OH listens to Crapitol. each to their own is s'pose. might give R2 a trial run just for comparrison purposes.

Radio 2 is slowly moving to the generation that is a bit too old for radio 1 but not quite ready for waiting to die FM. It very nearly missed us out. Radio 2's demographic is all over the place, it still has Desmond Carrington playing his turn of the century (20th not 21st) tunes.

Chris was great, I enjoyed Terry and his wit was perfect, but Chris is more on the money for those of us who have outgrown large parts of Radio 1. There will no doubt be those doom mongers who will say I am turning off, but where exactly in radioland to they go?

I've listened to Radio 2 for a long time - more to do with the good travel reports than anything else. I liked Terry it was a good show and a good team around him. Loved the Janet and John stories and the "Things that money can't buy" auction for Children in Need every year. Chris in the drivetime slot especially on a Friday evening with the D spot etc, I thought was brilliant and I tried not to miss it.
Will I miss Terry - yes but I won't mourn his passing on. Chris is a professional and over the last few years seems to have matured from what he was when he was at Radio 1.

I'm sorry to see Tel's passing (although am sure it was probably 'time'). Not a big Chris Evans fan, so I'm happy with local radio to wake up to for now. I will, however, follow Steve Wright to the Ends of the Earth. We've been together almost 30 years now

I'm clearly much older than my years but I cant abide TW or CE. When back in the UK I only ever listen to Radio 5, news and sport, and Drivetime with Peter Allen, brilliant grumpy old b**ger. I didnt mind Mr Mayo when he did the afternoon slot, the book slot on a Friday was always interesting, to me at least, but not over charismatic it must be said.
At home now I only have a news radio program on as well, to assist with my language learnage.
Just not into listening to music really.

I'm out of the loop. We've only listened to the Today programme in the morning for years, whilst we buzz around getting ready for work. I really like peace and tranquility in the morning to be honest, and a bit of news and politicians dodging questions is all I want first thing.

I probably would found Terry Wogan 'a bit racy' in the morning, never mind yer new man.

My car radio regretably doesn't accompany me to work, and my pocket radio has gone hay-wire, so I sing along to my very own air-waves (sad isn't it?).

Having said all that both TW and CE kept me entertained whilst the radio was working.
