I was conscious of keeping the negativity to a minimum. What does it say about me/our language that there are so many great pejoratives out there?

sorry folks if I stunted the thread but being me, an ignoramous, not at all bombastical, I just wondered what bored beans had to do with it.

I was just trying to give an example of the word bombastic in a sentence, the "bored beans" was a reference to another thread. I wondered if anyone would notice!

              • I have to say my boss gets that 'bored beans' look on his face as I am giving him an explanation - before he launches into the bombastic tirades he goes in for with alacrity.

Ummm, not too sure how else explain it, I'm sure if it was less confusing I'd be able to describe what I meant better
Hopefully you understand the game though, that's the main thing.

                    • Word of The Day 6th November:

                      Disparity
                      n-
lack of similarity or equality; inequality; difference.

E.g. "The disparities between home growing and allotment growing are too numerous to mention"

It's not the most unusual word, but it's such a nice easy one to slip into a sentance to replace the word "difference". Try it, I'm sure you'll see a disparity!

                      • It's a bit late in the day, but had to share this word:

Word of The Day 22nd November:

                        tmesis
                        n-
the interpolation of one or more words between the parts of a compound word

                        E.g. "abso-flippin'-lutely"

(It's also the only word in the English language to begin "tm")
