Gloves here (vinyl then gardening ones usually) - my hands are cracked and bleed a fair lot though from day to day use, so daren't muck about in soil much without em! Wish there were ones that fit better though, as some things I cannot do with them on as finesse is required.

Try the cotton ones from boots, with a latex one over the top. Tight as a gnat's *****

Are you a glove wearer or do you go bare in the soil?

I really do struggle with wearing gloves and I have tried so many types but just prefer the soil in my hands. And then when I see Carol Klein on GW, her hands are as minging as mine, so I don't feel quite so silly.

For the past two years I have never been able to wear gloves, I just couldn't get on with them.

I mentioned it to my Dad how I was fed up of doing the school run with grubby hands and he sent me a load of gloves from his work and they are fab. Really good fit and I don't feel at a disadvantage with wearing them.

When I go to the plot I'll find out the company who make them

I have perfectly manicured nails...only problem is I have half the garden up them, I never wear glove's when I'm potting on seedlings, I'm so heavy handed the poor things would never survive if I did. But for heavy work i.e digging, building walls etc, then yes. For everything else no.

OH bought me some great gloves, they are thermal as I get really cold hands, but the gloves don't make you hot in the summer,and you can do things in them that normally I would have to whip them off for!

Think they are called atlas or something like that and come in loads of different sizes.
I used to be a no-gloves girl but am a bit of a convert to gloves as hands were really wrecked and not sure how profesional it looks when I have to go to work!

I sometimes wear latex ones too for seed handling.

No gloves worn here! Hands are now quite hardened to nettle stings but still struggle a wee bit with thistles although I'm getting there.

Last time I had scrupulously clean hands and nails was about 20 years ago when I had to stay in hospital for a month.
I kept looking at my hands and thinking "These can't be mine, surely?"Lol

Often toyed with the idea of going au natural with my feet also but we are required to wear steel capped boots at work so bare feet wouldn't go down to well................maybe when I retire?

I quite often do this, I'm sure 'elf n shafty would have a fit - it is more than once I have had a slug squish up between my toes

We have to do a tick check in our garden/field after each trip out there- I've been got several times and once needed antibiotics against Lymes disease!

No wonder the locals don't sunbath in their gardens....mind you it'd be fun checking out the OH in places he can't see

I only heard of Lymes disease the other day after taking my little cat to the vet for removal of many of these blighters!

Actually, thinking about it, I don't think I've had a Tetinus jab since I was 14 or 15. Perhaps I'd better book an appointment with the nurse.

I think you only need a booster every 10 years these days- used to be much more often

I wear gloves all the time and also soak my finger nails in lemon juice if the nail brush is not able to leave my hands looking clean and cared for.

I have over 20 pairs, essential when collecting blackberries and raspberries, or fingers are stained.

Even when it's really hot and sunny I keep myself covered up, otherwise I find I get tanned (aged) hands.
