you know like if you've got two websites open and you click on one of them? well when i do it for some obscure reason when i go onto the page i've clicked it somehow ends up detaching itself from the other tab at the top and i end up with the page floating about somewhere half way down the screen

yeah i heard firefox is quite good.. if i can't resolve this chrome thing i think i might switch over to it

As far as I know, there's no option that can cause Chrome to detach a tab simply by being clicked so my guess is that as you click the tabs you might be pulling the mouse down away from the bar. That's one of Chrome's so-called 'features'. The tab bar is set up so that a tab can be pulled out into a separate window by dragging it away from the tab bar. You may notice that if you click and drag the tab away from the bar, it shows in a translucent window that it's being pulled from the previous window.

The solution is basically to try not to drag tabs off the tab bar as you click on them, and if they do detach, to drag the rogue tab back onto the tab bar before releasing the mouse.

yeah i agree it prob is something i'm doing wrong just wish the thing wasn't so sensitive.... and that i wasn't so impatient

that has happened to me a couple of times and the way i fix it is to maximise the floating one and it cures it self.jacob

I changed over to Chrome from IE when there were problems a while back. I find chrome is a lot easier to use for some reason, maybe it's just me, but I prefer it to IE

The only way I can get a tab to detach and float is by holding down the 'ctrl' button whilst clicking on a tab.

Maybe you've got a mouse button set up as 'ctrl' and are accidentally pressing it at the same time? This happened to me all the time when I had a mouse with a button on the side where I automatically rest my thumb!

I love chrome and use it at home but had enough problems getting my folks used to Firefox after years of AOL (spit) so use FF at work (i.e. my parent's house!)

Don't worry ckfe, it happens to me too! I think it's a case of 'sensitive mouse button syndrome' as I too seem to rest my finger on the button instead of the click-wheel.

I love Google Chrome it's simple to use, and doesn't take all day to load like Firefox. Mine has a hissy fit sometimes; if I click on one of my bookmark headers, instead of opening the pull-down list for me to choose which page I want, it opens all the pages under that bookmark . I haven't checked, but I think I may have a sticky mouse button or sommat!
