80th Birthday gift ideas

I look after part of my neighbours garden, she's a lovely sweet lady and it's her 80th birthday this month.

I want to buy her a little something to celebrate the occasion but Im stuck for ideas. She's diabetic so nothing choccie - can you help with some suggestions?

I think I've suggested this before for someone but how about a bird table & or feeders if she likes to look out or potter in the garden, got my 87 year old mum-in-law one , she loves it but says none of the birds have been back since we put it up! Or if you don't want to spend much how about a pot plant or something you've grown yourself.

I think her cat would see a Bird Table as a running buffet. I might do a couple of hanging baskets or planters for her.

My mum had a lovely brooch for her 80th. Hanging baskets or something sounds like a lovely idea. What about a nice rose bush maybe one with a similar name to her.

we got OH gran vouchers for her 80th, boring but much more appriciated than an other bunch of flowers, we went with M&S so she could treat herself to nice food, bottle of brandy, or clothes or cosmetics, it went down very well, she bought shoes.

I'm with you there, yoanbob, the voucher wins big time over the flowers. Then she has the added enjoyment of choosing something for herself.

Amanda is a respected member of this forum and she asked for suggestions for a gift for her respected and loved neighbours 80th birthday. Some suggestions are offensive, upsetting, juvenile and not funny.

I think an apology to Amanda is in order.

I like the idea of a rose bush. The David Austin site has some lovely ones with names like Celebrations that you could use for any big birthday or anniversary. You can order from there (but could get delivery any time up to and including April for bare-rooted - or order potted - costs more but you can get it when you want.

am sorry amanda i agree was not funny ... still stand by my real suggestion of a print of her house from above we did one of these for my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary of all the houses they'd lived at, and they loved them .. xxxx

How about one of those hanging feeders you can attach to a wall, cat couldnt get those?

As she is a diabetic, perhaps a gift of some diabetic luxuries she would'nt normally buy for herself.
