How much for a gig???!!!!!

I am truly gobsmacked. Mr H looked up the prices for the James Taylor concert. Ok so I'm a sad old hippy

They ranged from �66 for a seat a couple of streets away behind a pillar to a huge �275!!!! in Manchester
The O2 was cheap by comparison at a mere �120

Am I behind the times/a tight old bat or is this a huge sum to be charging?
I think I will just turn the speakers up and listen on youtube

Well I might be a sad old bat Fiona but I wouldn't pay �275 for a ticket for any concert.
I think these people just get carried away with themselves.
But it couldn't happen if there wasn't people out there prepared to pay those prices.
I just find them really sad.

I couldn't afford it now, but I have paid over the odds for tickets in the past, usually from a 'Tout' at the door. Having said that, I've also paid far less than ticket price on occasions too.

I suppose it depends who it is, will you get the opportunity again, bla bla...

That does seem really steep!!!Not paid for a "biggie" gig for several years though....so maybe just a sign of the times???
The Red Hot chilli Peppers came to Ipswich a couple of years ago & I was so excited....but then the tickets went on sale & we realised we just couldn't afford it(still nowhere near the �275 mark!!)....I was totally miserable about not going....but a couple of weeks before the gig I entered our local papers competition....included a "Thankyou" and lots & lots of positive vibes in my entry coupon....even stayed positive up to two days before the gig & hurried a friend off the phone as I was expecting a call from the paper....literally two minutes after hanging up the phone rang.....Yep...the paper telling me I'd won!!!....didn't believe it straight off...bit too much of a coincidence....but two nights later was sat()*enjoying an excellent performance from Mr Kiedis & gang!!(would have preferred to be on the ground & not balanced in the stalls & having my pic in the paper wasn't my favourite of things....but hey...as the saying goes...beggars & all that!!).
Excellent night,but not sure I'd have been able to justify spending over a hundred pounds for one night out???

*did manage to sneak a bit of dancing in whilst the bouncer chappies weren't looking!!!

Seems very high price, even though I love James Taylor. Most I have paid was �45 in 2001 to see the Eagles, I would have happily paid three times as much for a concert that started at 7.45 and finished at 12.30 am ! They were truly amazing. The one band I would love to see, but commands very high ticket prices to sell out concerts is Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Fiona, have you listened to James Taylor's latest CD "Covers"? Some artists age well, some develop new strengths - but some don't, and I fear JT is in the latter category... It's not awful but I found it really disappointing, a bit over orchestrated, low emotional temperature, some tracks attempting to rock and you tend to wish they didn't.... And that was only ten quid at Tescos! It's reasonable to assume this tour will promote the CD so have a look at the Amazon reviews which vary between the usual adulation and "Easily the worst James Taylor album I've heard and I own most of them, I'd urge you to avoid this if you want to maintain good memories of this once great artist." Hmmm, BBC4 recently screened a 1971 James Taylor concert which was back to his Sweet Baby James days (and memories...) but that doesn't mean he can hack it nearly forty years later (lordie help us all.) b. x

We paid �90 each to 'see' Al Green last year. The sound was terrible (it didn't reach us halfway back the stalls) and I couldn't see a thing, being only 5'3".

We got a full refund.

They're all at it, must be broke... But there's some more good ones coming up in the Spring, chief of which must be The Return of Tina Turner - can she really hack it at 71, (the likelihood is yes!), Bob Dylan again, Simply Red never stops... The surprise of the decade must be Robert Plant with Alison Krauss. All helps to take me back to the days when Bubblewrap must've been a roadie, bring it on, let's hope some of these prove worth it for an evening away from the vegetables.... b.

No that was the real price, not an E bay job. Im not going at that price! Especially if this latest album is a bit wet, going to pootle to Tescos and see if its on offer

BW were you at the IOW for all those?

I saw Tina Turner about 10 years ago and the energy of the woman was stunning! Mind you I didnt pay 200 quid for the privelage so that helped

I wanted to see Springsteen at Hyde Park, but was so disgusted at the add-ons and ticket prices, I've given up on it. I thought Kylie was a bit much at �50, two years ago, but �70 is really taking the piddle. Have seen them going for �200 upwards since it sold out. Given the current climate, shouldn't they be LOWERING the prices?!?
