  • Good morning all, a bit on the dull side but no rain forecast.

GF, At least it will be peace of mind to know your brother in law is in hospital and being looked after.

Snoop, bet you can't wait for those 7 months to pass and then it will be time to please yourself.

We try to avoid going anywhere on a bank holiday, much better to stay at home.

No plans for the day so I will be doing something garden related.

Lottie, hope you enjoy your break.
    Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

    • Good Morning All Sunny here but very cold. I hope he's home soon GF. Nothing wrong with having an egg (albeit chocolate) for breakfast CG We're out for lunch today at my Son in Law's. All the Golden Girls will be there too, so I'm looking forward to that. Have a good holiday Lottie.

        • Nicos, if you're in the North East it would be a shame not to visit Beamish if you can.

Nicos for fossil hunting hours about Saltwick Bay (Whitby) , surrounding places of Runswick Bay, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay. Theres always a walk to the lighthouse at whitley bay. , done lindisfarne though didn't do the Gertrude Jekyll garden there, Alnwick for the poison garden?
Seahouses could go out on the boat /farne islands
              Bamburgh Castle and beach.
Depends which way you go north? Loch lomond, Loch Katrine
              Fife?
We like North Berwick nr Edinburgh.

              • Seahouses... used to go there every year for holidays as a kid. Best fish and chips in the world from Moles (now closed), eaten straight out of the paper on the harbour walls.

Better for me than Bamburgh is the walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle. Amazing walk and the castle is quite a dramatic landmark. Then, ideally, back for kippers in the tearooms at the kipper smokery.

That said, I remember being amazed as a little girl by the Grace Darling Museum in Bamburgh.

Probably all very different now... The smokery was most unsanitary.

                  • Oh yes, Whitby is one of my favourite places. Hard to get bad fish and chips there. There's always a chance of finding some jet washed up on the beach as well. It always felt a bit spooky passing Fylingdales on the way.

I remember going on a two day Geography field trip from school to Lindisfarne, Seahouses, Bamburgh Castle etc. We ended up participating in a traffic survey in Durham. I wonder if it's all changed much in half a century or so.

                            • Good evening all.

I went hospital visiting this afternoon. My brother in law is, fortunately for him, not in the same hospital that my husband was in last year.

I was pleasantly surprised to find him in a large, clean, quiet, sunny ensuite, single room. The staff seemed very nice and helpful. I actually believe that he is being well looked after, which feels as if a great weight has been taken off my shoulders. (I never felt that about my husband's "care" last June.) He has also avoided the dreaded catheter and when, as I was leaving, I, at his request, asked if someone was available to help him to the toilet somebody went immediately to help him.
