  • Good Morning All Heavy grey clouds here, hope the snow holds off until after my Grory Hop delivery which is due any time soon.
Bren my GG is fine thank you, but the car isn't. She had Frank with her and had to throw him in the back as the car hit her head on. She's now looking into a safety seat for him. After her trauma we heard that her sister's car had been hit, but while it was parked outside her home - she was at work. There were so many accidents in Sheffield yesterday due to black ice that the Minor Injuries Unit had to close!
    Have a good day

    • Good morning all..it's dull but no snow or ice, just light rain forecast.
Nicos, that's sad to hear Hibou is going down hill health wise.
You have given her a wonderful life and are keeping her comfortable right to the end.

CG, it's lovely to see you back, hope you get more time to do some gardening this year.

Flo, how awful for your GG, she must have got an awful shock, TG she was unhurt.

Going to visit my sister today for an overdue catch up.
.Have a good day all and stay safe and warm,

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      • Morning,

Good to see you back CG and Burnie.

First day off on annual leave and I'm in bed ill. So going to rest up today and maybe read my book and sleep.

I was hoping to be getting down to the allotment while I am off. I am not back in until the 20th.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

        • Good morning, cold and damp this morning and road and pavements like glass was going to go out for something but decided not worth the risk, can wait till the ice clears. Was out at my garden club on Tuesday night, granddaughter came in to sit with her gran, at the club I informed the members that this will be the last session and after the meeting in May the garden club will close, with having run the club for over 25 years I will be sorry to stop it. The club was started for people who enjoyed gardening but didnt want to exhibit in shows, there were over twenty-five members for several years meeting on a monthly basis, but sadly as the age group was on the senior side the numbers have gone down and we are down to 10 to 12 members with no younger folk coming in, the knowledge that people have is unbelievable and sadly a lot of it will be lost, but, as I have more important issues to attend to I have made this decision.
Now on to other things, I have followed the posts on here even though I havent posted, and thank you all for you information and good wishes for OH, who though still in pain and her heart rate is still high, evidently I need to sit in another room from her she has now started to eat a bit more, not sure whither she is regaining her appetite or just getting used to my cooking, whatever it is it can only be an improvement. So after all that spiel I will wish you a good day , take care if out and the roads and pavements are icey and remember to pass on the smiles
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers

          • Afternoon

This mornings Grory Hop went well, Aldi had reduced mince pies to 24 pence and walking around the store almost everyone had them in their trolley.
Guess what we’ll be having for afternoon tea.

Nicos it’s sad about Hibou but it sounds like she’s still active and doing her own thing.

Flo good the hear your GG and Frank were both fine.

            enjoy your afternoon

            • We did a quick grory hop too at lunchtime in a massive hypermarche.
There’s a tiny 30% off fridge which was packed …mostly with sandwiches. But after a big skip dive to the bottom we did come out with some lovely cheeses, burger buns and a loaf of thick sliced wholemeal bread. Thick sliced is unheard of - do we’ll be checking out their shelves another time as they are perfect for cheese on toast and bacon and egg butties for a change.
              Also some bifidus yogurts.

I'm very envious of your mince pies Bren though! You know they freeze really well? Fantastic in the summer with a big blob of vanilla icecream!

It’s decided to rain heavily here and most of the snow has gone…but the wind is picking up. Hopefully we’ll miss the storm.

Glad to hear your family are ok Flo. I had no idea Sheffield was so hilly until my son went to Uni there. I can imagine black ice could be one heck of a problem there.

Rary- that’s sad about the club…particularly sad in that no one has volunteered to stand up and take over .
Had you thought of compiling a small booklet full of ‘ best gardening tips ever’ with contributions from everyone which could be sold with proceeds going to a charity of your choice? Say 20-30 tips from each member?
              Just a thought….

              • Sorry FF I seem to have missed the bit with your GG, pleased they are ok. I bet there's lots of broken bones after falls with this ice.

Talking of ice, we normally have the council dumping mounds of salt around here. Not this year..apparently you have to request it. Some have requested espeshially farms for wagons etc and still haven't got any. Cost saving no doubt.

Rary that is sad about the club but understand what you mean. Have you asked if anyone would like to take it on, like some younger folk .

                  • Still no sign of any snow here and the sky doesn't even look pregnant with snow .... yet. Maybe overhyping by the met office? I'll wait with bated breath.....

A couple of days ago I ordered a "sippy cup" for Mr GF. It obviously has a spout but also has an alternative lid with a straw hole. It arrived this afternoon, I filled it with tea and, with much trepidation handed it to him. I did think that he might just reject it out of hand. but no, he quite happily drank the lot unaided. I didn't have to help keep it balanced and I wasn't worried about it spilling and burning him. I've ordered another now.

I think that I might go and make some soup now. I've decided on leek and potato.

                          • Evening all.

I'm with you on the Ferrero Rochers, LD. Overpriced round blobs of Dairy Crunch. Pah! We've discovered a supermarket that sells own-brand Lindt-style bombons. Obviously not Lindt, but nowhere near Lindt prices either. Fortunately, it's a long way to the supermarket...

Sorry to hear about your club, Rary. That must be quite a wrench after so many years. Any chance you could do something different? Like visit each other's gardens? Or were you already doing that?

All this talk of mince pies... I wonder what Mr Snoop would say to a couple of mince pies and a cup of tea for supper.

Have a nice evening, folks. And hope you get better soon, Carrie.
