  • Morning all.

Snoop, hope you and Mr Snoop had a good night's rest on the new beds. Hope Mrs Rary is managing to get some rest too, and GF.

No frost today, it's back to rain.

But you're going to start looking at them in shops, aren't you? See how they're made. Wonder if you can 'prune' your current tree to make it fit the space...

If you can do basic woodwork and make pomanders, I reckon you could do it.

      • Good morning.

I hope that Mr Snoop has had a decent night's sleep, and you too Snoop. Is it a good sign that you are around early? I fell asleep at about midnight but Mr GF was still awake, watching TV at 2am, when I awoke next. I am just debating with myself whether a mug of coffee is worth getting out of my warm cocoon for yet.

Lipton's tea! Ugh! How on earth did it end up being the tea that is always available outside the UK? I do not know any English man ... or woman, who would choose to buy it, if given an alternative. Mind you if the weird teabag, on a string, is also served on the side of a cup of hot (not boiling) water, and even worse is maybe accompanied by hot milk, you might as well just take your bat home until the white cliffs are safely behind you again.

Having been brought up on basic, working class, food choices, I always assumed that I wouldn't like "posh" Earl Grey tea until a "stoned" friend once brewed a pot for us. He used proper tea leaves in his ancient teapot. It was strong, tasted great, and would have pleased any builder with just a small splash of milk.

Making a Christmas tree, Mothhawk. That would be an interesting challenge. The end result would certainly be a talking point.

        • Morning all.

Very chilly out and due to be a cold wind all day. But bright, so that's cheering. Hope you're all doing OK in your weather conditions.

I had a good night's sleep on my new bed. Mr Snoop less so, but not unexpected. The mattresses are quite soft in comparison with our old one, a futon. That will take some getting used to.

Got quite a lot of tidying and rearranging to do today after all the furniture shifting yesterday. On the positive side, I've managed to put all my recipe books away on the shelves. I had rather a large overspill... Mind you, I still have to find a home for all the books I've ousted to make room for my cookbooks.

One tea down so far. Time for coffee anyone?

          Have a great day everyone.

          • Mornin n’alln’all

Brrrr indeed- Tis -3C at the moment. Good job the fire stayed in overnight!
            Snow/ sleet/ rain due later.

Do think about trimming your present tree MH if it’s still in good condition!…You sound pretty artistic and very capable. I would imagine you might need a blob of sealing wax on the cut ends, but I bet you could do it.

The very worst cup of tea I ever had was in Crete. We’d just walked down the StMaria gorge in mid 30sC and were utterly exhausted.
There was a tiny cafe at the bottom on the beach back in those days where you could recover whilst awaiting the pickup boat.
Never have I ever looked forward to a brew as much as that. A nice big mug of tea arrived and I took a big gulp….of…camomile tea with goats milk Nah….nah…
Ordering a cup of tea ( Liptons) in France back in the 70’s often came with a small just of hot milk …nooooo…,
But…the best dreadful tea I had was made by my daughter when she was 5. She wasn’t allowed to use the kettle so she’d used hot tap water. Obviously not hot enough for the tea to ‘colour up’…so she’d used hot added instant coffee so it looked right!….te he…How sweet was that!

Hope peeps had a better night sleep last night?

oh, and speaking of tea…anyone fancy a brew?

Enjoy your day peeps…hard to believe it’s weekend already!

Hope you all managed to get some sleep. Rain here for the day but that's better than the snow other hare having. There's a Christmas fair in our area will decide later if to go or not.
Tea and toasted teacakes for breakfast here plenty left.

                • A much more civilised hour. I've eventually, belatedly, drunk my first cup of coffee.

I know that it used to be hard to get a decent cup of tea in foreign parts in the 60s and 70s, and still is in some "uncivilised" places, but I think it was equally hard to get a good cup of coffee in England at that time.

I was just thinking about Christmas trees from my childhood. I know that we has real ones, but the only things I remember about any of them are the decorations and lights.

On the other hand I remember my paternal grandparents tree. It was a small, sad looking, scrawny, artificial, silver, tinsel like tree which still looked marvellous when it was dark and it's fairy lights were turned on. They also made their own garlands every year ..... with my help

                  • Good morning all, it's right and dry and 5 degs.
Snoop, glad to hear you had a good night's sleep, it takes a while to get used to a new bed.

Our tree has quite a spread as well so I now put it in the porch.
I also put our white one in the conservatory,

A trip to the library this morning and a visit from my GG this afternoon,
                    Have a good day all,

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                      • I seem to have been wallowing in nostalgia recently and some things that I haven't eaten/drunk for years have been sneaking onto my shopping list. The last two were lucozade and H P fruity sauce. I've already re-ordered the sauce. This week a pot of Bovril seems to have jumped into my virtual trolley. I know I used to like it to drink and to spread thinly on hot buttered toast. Any suggestions for more trips down memory lane for my tastebuds.

                        • Things I couldn't abide but other people loved were Wagon Wheels and Tunnock's Teacakes. I did quite like Tunnock's caramel wafers, though. Never really saw the appeal of Club biscuits - do they still make those? Can you still buy Penguins?

We used to eat those tinned spaghetti hoops when I was a kid. Certainly wouldn't recommend those!

                            • Yes you can still buy penguins and clubs, but likely they will disappoint. Instead of that luscious thick chocolate coat they now have a thin chocolate flavour coating because of the increased price of cocoa https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c86737yg3jlo
