  • Good morning all.

Nicos, I think you better check now that your mini eggs haven't gone off. I haven't heard church bells for years. When I was a child I could hear them occasionally from a little village nearby and I used to love the sound. Years later a niece learned how to ring them at that church as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award.

When you mentioned about the church bells going to Rome, I had a vision of workers taking them down and putting them on a plane for their papal visit. Obviously not ..... they just sprout wings.

We don't seem to have any easter traditions here. I remember decorating real eggs as a child at school, and watching an Easter bonnet competition.

Sadly there doesn't even seem to be any car boots near here this weekend.

      • Nicos...Dublin is so small our ancestors could be related.

Presses...Wardrobe,,,afree standing piece of furniture..so we have built in presses inches bedroom.
        Closet...as in an outside toilet..
Cupboard...a small space like a broom press.
Hot press...where the water tank is inside of.
So the word..press or presses covers a multitude of different spaces.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

        • Good morning all, lashing rain and looks to be down for the day.
Plenty of domestics, if I feel like it.
A jigsaw on the go if I get bored.
As its good Friday we will visit the church at some stage.
There are three services, at 12,0,clock, 3.0,clock and 7 o,clock.
Our church bells used to ring at midday and six o,clock in the evening, but thats no longer the case.
Nothing stays the same, have a good day all.

          • Morning all.

Love the word presses. Thanks for the explanation, bramble.

We used to hear bells from multiple churches when we lived in Barcelona, every quarter of an hour. Now we only hear them very rarely when the weather conditions are just right from a village about 5 miles away as the crow flies. I rather miss them.

Clouding over a bit now. Rain forecast tomorrow. Having a bit of a break today from the weeding. Will do some strimming, scything and seed sowing instead. Oh, and piling a huge amount of weeds onto a makeshift compost heap. No browns to speak of... Could be a hot stinking mess. I'll turn it at some point and add browns then.

Got a loaf of bread on the go and hoping to make hot crossless buns later. Didn't manage it yesterday. I've only got baking chocolate in the house. I'd say phew, except a chocolate cake is now calling to me from somewhere in the future.

Have a great rest of the day, everyone.

I know... The only bags (different uses, so different bags) that are open are dark and I much prefer milk. The longer the milk chocolate bag stays unopened, the longer I will go without eating the contents.

I've come indoors - it's too hot to carry on out there - and clouds are brewing. Looks like we might even get a storm.

                    • It's not cold here, 16°C but it is very grey and it looks as if there is more rain due.

The whole house smells of onion and vinegar. I've just got the date and apple chutney in the slow cooker. I'll go and hunt out some jam jars next ready to sterilise. I have a self imposed rule that I never store jam jars unless I have scrubbed them and removed the labels. It's a job I just hate doing. The "blackboard" labels I bought are brilliant though. They will not come off, but I can just scrub the chalk pen writing off, even if I have sealed it with hairspray.

                      • Evening, I don’t know about anywhere else but it's like winter here again. Windy, wet and miserable . We’ve even got the heating on!!!!
Brought up in Glasgow I was used to my parents using the word ‘press’ for cupboard. You don’t hear it so much now.
Hope you all have a lovely evening. x

                        • Good morning all.

I've been awake for hours, and the dawn chorus is in full swing. The weather forecast is pretty awful, no sunshine today. Typical weather for a Bank Holiday weekend, I suppose. It must have been cold in the night as I heard the heating click on at one point.

If there's nothing interesting happening today I might start my marmalade off. I think the chutney is okay, I'll know better in about a month when it's started to mature.

I think I'll try and doze off again, the sky is just starting to lighten and the birds have gone quiet.

                          • Morning all.

Hope you managed to nod back off, GF. Sorry if I've woken you.

If you didn't test your mini eggs for freshness yesterday, Nicos, I reckon you should today. After all, you wouldn't want them to go past their best between today and tomorrow, would you?

100% thunderstorm forecast for this morning and drizzle this afternoon. Brightening up at 8.00 pm.

So no idea what to do today. I might go and do a bit of sorting of the weeds I've pulled up so far. I've piled up most of them with some bits of old cardboard and twiggy olive prunings. But my hands are aching quite a bit today. Not used to so much gripping and tugging. I might do a bit more of that but not much. Plus seed sowing. And a bit of paid work. Turns out I do have an idea of what to do today after all.

                            Have a great day, everyone.

There's been a sprinkling of rain overnight, not enough to wet under the trees, but it's getting brighter now. Mild, too. Popped to the supermarket early on for a few bits and bobs. I've noticed that at this time of day (7am) it's nearly all blokes shopping. Obviously a chore they need to do, but as men everywhere, they hate shopping, even for food, so get it done early.
