they did show it, but they also showed a lot of people who couldn't care what pain they would cause as long as the animal looked right. i was mostley shocked at the breeders who couldn't see the damage they where doing!!!
All my dogs are heinz 57's and all are rescued. I have no idea why people dump dogs. The latest addition i found after he had been left in the woods for over week, he was starving, dirty and obviuosly beaten.

    People can be horrible
I have dyslexia so please excuse my spelling and grammar

The KC Accredited Breeder Scheme is not really worth anything though. I can think of 2 breeders who I know have the KC accreditation and don't specifically health test. To be part of the ABS, the KC don't insist that you have relevant heath tests etc done.

I thought the progamme highlighted what really goes on in a lot of breeds. That's not to say that every breeder is as evil and scummy as the lady who was breeding the Cavaliers knowing they had that horrible disease.

The KC should show some guts and insist on the relevant health tests (DNA, hip scoring, heart scoring, eye testing) for each breeder before registering a litter. There should be stiff penalties (and revoking of a dogs registration?) if these aren't done. Make the fees you pay to the Kennel Club worth it!

        >>we all know the dangers of the deformities in people,
        >>why do we ignore it in animals?

        >>It's still illegal for a chav father to breed with his chav
        >>daughter/grand daughter.

but it's still legal to breed with (and marry) your first cousin, despite the risks of deformity ....
and god help anyone who says a deaf-mute or someone with a low IQ or who has a genetic "defect" (or should it be any human who is not genetically perfect?) should not breed ....
even ginger people are allowed to breed .... poor kids .... what's the world coming to??

before i got my dog (labrador) i got advice from the kennel club website and other owners, went through accredited breeders, knew to check things like hip scores etc etc etc
so there is *some* good info / guidance etc, but never any guarantees of genetic perfection ........

Not necessarily an imperfection!!...where would stars like Kojak,Duncan Goodhew Richard Fairbrass(to name but a few!)be without their fine heads of perfection!!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

But the KC don't insist on these checks being carried out before breeding. Breed clubs are a great start, as are other experienced owners. I don't think you'll ever get a 100% guarantee of genetic perfection, but not breeding from dogs who have or carry a hereditary disease or condition would be a start!

It is too easy for Joe Public to get a couple of dogs and breed them and sell their puppies. Countless times I've been asked if I will let my Boxers be used at stud, by people we've met on walks!! Luckily, both my dogs are neutered.

...and besides, male pattern baldness is inherited from your maternal grandfather so your son might be ok FG!

Practise makes us a little better, it doesn't make us perfect.

i agree .... but we should also bring in controlled breeding programs for humans too ..... compulsory sterilisation of chav scum with their low IQs would be a very good start ..... the benefits to society would be far greater than controlled breeding in dogs .... or cats .... or goldfish ......
