I had the flying ants in the garden today. Glad to know I wasn't specially picked on - it's just flying ant day.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Amazing that they can predict the day, how do they know? Actually, ours came on Tuesday, 5:25pm. I was sitting out in the backyard with my daughter, enjoying the nice weather. I had noticed that there were lots of ants about and they were moving with that frenetic activity you normally associate with having disturbed their nest. Suddenly, from 3 separate nests around the patio, there was a huge release of flying ants. My 1.5 year old daughter thought it was interesting and toddled over for a closer look. By the time I came over to her a minute later, she was covered with about 20 ants, with loads of flying ones caught in her wispy hair. Not a big deal, but a bit icky to clean her off.

Although I agree flying ants are pretty gross, you really shouldn't hate ants. They turn over as much soil as earthworms do.

Major ant fly nightmare last night: got home to find a dozen of them on the kitchen windowsill. Clobbered them all with a spatula.

Ten mins later, another half dozen on the window. Clobbered them too, and drowned them.

Ten mins later ... you guessed it.

This went on for a couple of hours ~ I just could not work out how they were getting in ... all the doors & windows were shut. Then I had a brain wave, and pulled out the microwave to inspect the tiled wall behind it. There was a matchhead sized hole in the silicone sealant, and the little bloggers were crawling out of there. So I superglued that hole shut
