No you can't buy a whole one, the calories will be written on the packet!! Much better to buy a multipack, the individuals don't have any info on them.

A pound sweet!? Blimey, inflation is taking its toll. They were penny chews when I were a lad.

                  No we all did.

I'm kinda confused with carbon offsetting as there seems to be no way of actually truly costing your own emissions to see what you could do to actually make yourself carbon neutral. I would like to make myself green in planet terms, but how to genuinely go about that without paying a third party to do it for me, would be useful. I've tried a few of the calculators in the past but they are really lame and not specific enough.

Hey, no worries Ma, you should know by now that I don't take myself too seriously anyway (or any other subject for that matter). Not on here anyway.

Buy yourself the book Saving the Planet Without Costing the Earth: Amazon.co.uk: Saving the Planet Without Costing the Earth: 500 Simple Steps to a Greener Lifestyle: Donnachadh McCarthy: Books hundreds of ideas, literally.

I think being carbon neautral is the obvious ideal, but any efforts made toward reduction have to be worthwhile in my humble onion. Doing nothing is not an option as far as I'm concerned. We are each entitled to our own opinion obviously, just airing mine.

I reckon though that we, as in us grapes, can't be that bad as we are already reducing our footprint by growing our own and not involving long transport chains in a lot of the veggies that we have - maybe some in the seed purchases, but a lot less in moving seeds than end results.

We are also recycling carbon back into the ground through our composting processes - between weeds and veggie remains etc.

And those who are GYOers tend, in my experience, to be somewhat more inclined to be relatively environmentally friendly than many other "normal" peeps (not that we are abnormal by any manner of means ). There are many here who tend to walk or cycle rather than use engine-powered transport (and of those, a good few seem to use public transport). There is often discussion about other environmentally friendly stuff like reducing ordinary bins going to landfill through composting, feeding chicks etc; green tips for reducing energy bills; people asking about lower energy appliances and other energy sources for their needs ........

Yes, being carbon neutral would be great. But no one can be truly carbon neutral - you will always use some carbon in daily living (just breathing takes in oxygen and sends out carbon for goodness sake!!).

But, as our beloved friends in a certain chain would say - "every little helps"!

....wanders off muttering about borrowing FIL's fishing rod for when on hols for some low-carbon protein to go with our low carbon veggies......

                        I'm guessing it's a carbon fibre rod?

                                Being green:

My shade of green is "Mean-green"

Reduced both our Central Heating and Electricity usage by 50% in last two years.

Improved the insulation to our house.

Changed vehicles to more fuel-efficient models (3 or 4 years ago now). Disappointed with the results (20mpg -> 35mpg, was expecting closer to 50mpg). Going to change again this year, aiming for 70mpg. (This is using my old driving style, not including the next item)

Adopted a different driving style - Google for Hypermiling if you are interested. On familiar journeys can increase MPG from 35mpg to around 45mpg, and usually 40mpg on unfamiliar journeys.

Planning to fit Solar water heating and wood-fired central heating (but Credit Crunch is making it difficult to get that into this years budget. If Darling would just ditch the VAT on renewals I'd be a buyer)

I go ape when any food with high air-miles comes into the house.

                                Growing veg too, of course
