I'm a vegetarian with leather shoes.
I live in the country but hate hunting.
I drink milk and don't have a problem with veal production.

I choose not to eat meat as I don't like the taste.
I'm smug and gloating, but that's just me. Nothing to do with been veggie

Forgive me if i read this wrong but you seem to be assuming that most vegetarians have no clue what goes on in meat production. when in fact, i think most (all) of the veggies I know (a few, I'm from Brighton) have a much better idea of it than the majority of meat eaters I know.

As a veggie I fully support ethical treatment, no waste etc in animal rearing and long for the day that that's the norm. I don't want to eat the stuff, but that certainly doesn't mean I have no concept of whats involved.

I think you misread me, sorry if it didn't come out very well, but I am a veggie myself.

Whoa what a debate!

My personal opinion is all celebrity chefs make a living from themselves as a brand BUT if along the way they can improve my own and animals lives, I find it hard to criticise. I don't have to buy their books, go along to their courses, watch the programs, etc. I don't have to agree with everything they do. I do think that some genuinely believe in the causes they produce material for, and some just jump on the bandwagon.

DH and I were talking about it when we were watching. I mean, what 'help' do you need to eat meat? Easy: 1. put it in your mouth, 2. chew, 3. swallow!

and I guess from an ex-veggies point of view (mine) the very last thing you would start off with is liver....!!! I'd say chicken or some such other - mind you I always found it was bacon sarnies wot did the evil did of 'forcing/training' me to eat meat

after being veggie for 10yrs I decided to start eating meat again when i got a naany job in Istanbul;the 1st meal put in front of me was raw meatballs!Almost put me off ever going back to meat,but politely said my jetlag wasnt good so wouldn't be eating!! I'll give her another week before making my mind up but so far get the impression it's all for the cameras & slightly uncomfortable viewing.also much as i love Hugh()isnt it ever so slightly illegal to feed a veggie meat pretending its veggie soup?!or can we assume she not veggie anymore?

I watched it last night and thought "That's well out of order!!" telling someone it's veggie soup, but you made it with lungs??!! I've never been veggie and I wouldn't want to eat that!

Last time I saw a "pluck" I was dissecting it with the help of a dozen 12-year-old boys. (The girls were fashionably squeamish and asked to go to the library).

I've never thought of lungs as food (just my ignorance - I never thought about what happens to lungs before) but I did ask the class what they thought went in their burgers!

I think the veggie-turning-to-meat-eating is a bit contrived, but I do agree with the idea that if you're going to kill an animal then use it all. However, as a fully-fledged hypocrite I will not be having lung soup for lunch or devilled liver for dinner. If I'm going to eat offal I want it very well disguised.

I think it is a shame that he 'chose' a veggie as his apprentice butcher!

If the section was supposed to be about how to go about identifying, selecting and preparing a cut of meat such that the 'public' could then make informed choices - which is what I understood him to want from the phrases he used, why oh why has is devolved into 'force the poor little veggie to be brave and eat meat'!

After all his hard work showing the quality - or rather, lack thereof - of life the average chicken faces ....

Is it just me or is this slightly hipocritical and done purely for the 'TV' factor.

think unfortunately shes been chosen for the "must watch tv",as i think the families taking on the smallholders challenge,apparently we the viewing public need that "will they succeed or more importantly will they fail!?"approach to keep us interested!I've always liked hugh but would be nice for a change to focus on the peeps who would genuinely appreciate the experiences & not just those that might up the viewing figures.that said maybe he'll succeed & turn several FFjunkies into GYO fanatics?!
