These are programmes over the last couple of months which have highlighted the decline in bees and their impact on our farming industry.

Jimmy and the wild honey hunters - Aug 10
              Lost colonies - July 11
Hive of activity - May 8.

Our government need a serious kick in the ass for their serious lack of respect to the impact bees have on our fragile argicultural state. The fact they have not improved funding shows that in fact there is a loss in funding (inflation), their need for the industry to take some of the financial burden is a joke, how many of the colonies within GB are individuals with 1 to 5 hives, what are they going to ask them to fork out 10k each to help fund the research. Get a grip, their contempt for the downturn in hive populations in the UK, shows just how out of touch they are with reality.

I am seething, with their comments.

And Dr Who believe it or not...he talked of the time when all the bees died out in one of the last episodes!

How come then if there is clear knowledge of a potential devastation to our fab bees, do we have to put up with complete and utter lunacy from government. I can tell you now I will be lobbying all our local candidates to discover their opinion and intentions over our bees, and only the bee'est candidate will get my vote.

They also seemed to be saying that just because the USA has a problem it doesn't mean we will see it here...I beg to differ, look at bird flu, foot and mouth etc. If there isn't a meaningful, effective program of prevention/management in place before it hits, our bees will be in serious danger, and as a result so will the ecology and agriculture of this planet.

Is it possible to keep bees but not keep them ?

Like buy a hive and a colony but just leave them to it ? I'm sure the bees would rather keep their honey !
