Blind dates! Good or bad?

C'mon then I'm asking for a friend (honest! ). What's your experience of 'blind dates'? Would you, could you???

Mine aren't many but they're pretty much - oh no! Let me outta here!!!

Many moons ago I used to go on these all the time . I had a crowd of about 7-8 really good mates and we all set each other up on blind dates. Some were good some were the "J. Chri*t . get me outta here FAST". But on average it was a good way to meet people and I am still good friends with some of the girls that I (we) met.If it's a choice of sitting at home bored out of your skull or a blind date - go for the blind date. Saying that take all the usuall steps - double date the first time or ring at a certain time to check up on each other,meet in public and never be afraid to get up and just walk away if your not comfortable with the situation.

i've done that a few times in the last few years - learnt not to do the "dinner date" thing - more likely to do something like go bowling or walk the dog with someone - something we can both enjoy doing without wishing we weren't there .......

No in those days we didnt go south of the border and very few people came up from the south to the north . Glad to say those days are now becoming a faded memory and people are travelling throughout the island of Ireland much more than before.
Not really blind date related but one night coming out of a Disco in Dungannon on the way down the carpark a mate and I decided to introduce ourselves to two good looking ladies sitting in a car. Adrian walked down the drivers side and I took the passengers side . As we got level with the back doors (it was a Ford Sieria) we just opened the back doors , jumped in and said hello. About 2 seconds later we were looking at the wrong end of two 9 mm pistols and being asked "Who the f*** are you?"
It was 2 off duty police women that we had introduced ourselves to .I have never sobered up so quick in my life .Once they realised we were harmless and what our intentions really were we became good friends and I dated one of them for nearly a year afterwards.Not the best way of introducing yourself but it sticks in your mind even 15 years later for some reason.

Blind Dates are great, you get to park right next to the resturant, you don't have to pay the congestion charge or for parking. Down side is you have to buy the dog a dinner to.

It wasn't at the time though . On the way home Adrian said to me "Well f*** that, I spent �30 on drink tonight and I'm sober ". I knew how he felt . I'd spent about the same and I was sober to - normally we would be the worst two idiots you could think of at that time of the morning - drunk and thinking we were gods gift to the opposite sex.

Only ever had one blind date and it was a disaster. My "friend" also tried to fix me up with dates with a couple of guys I knew casually, and they weren't great either. I'm at the age now when I'm not sure it's worth it. I've been on my own for quite a while, and although I'd love a soulmate, I'm not sure he exists. I have to admit I'd probably be hard to live with, too.

I think that's the key to it... who is doing the setting up and is it just for a bit of fun to meet someone new or because they think they have found a potential life partner for you?

T'internet's the way to go IMHO.

I had a few dates whilst looking, some good and some very very bad [oh god - so bad], but amongst the fun my OH appeared on the scene; we met 2 weeks later after very restrained sensible emailing and have been together ever since.

You have to be just as sensible as meeting people in real life, you can block or delete them and a bit of banter generally pulls out their strong and weak points.

My good friend from Manchester also met her OH there; and they have been together ever since and are trying for a baby.

My OH is absolutely delish as well; the best �30 I ever spent on that subscription!!! He's upstairs ironing as I type and he is happy digging the garden for me. What more could you possibly ask for!
