selling at car boot

Hello,I hope to sell some of my toms, peppers, bedding plants at a car boot sale soon. Just wondered if anyone else has sold in the past and what experience they have had.

Good luck. I love buying at car boots, because prices are rock bottom. Don't expect to get rich - the customers are too tight. and you have to pay for your pitch

I've done a few and you don't make much really, but if its a nice day and you get a spot near friendly people it can make for a nice way to spend a Sunday morning.
Sold some surplus tom and herb plants last year and they all went in a very short time!!

I can't wait for the boot season to get underway - we have a few a year to get rid of stuff and go to one every Sat and Sun in summer - it's such a great way to find unusual plants grown by real enthusiasts.

At my local boots plants toms, peppers etc are often 50p each, but you could charge 80p each or do a deal like 3 for �2.00 - or whatever the going rate is in your area! It might help to make a couple of signs on a bit of cardboard first and take a marker pen so you can cut your prices if you need to by mid-morning.

Might be worth clearing out the loft too and using the opportunity to get rid of some stuff you don't use - people may be more attracted to a diverse stall and it could help you cover the cost of your pitch. It may be helpful to start saving up plastic bags now too.

My best advice is to wear lots of layers, take a big flask of tea and a moneybelt with some change in and enjoy chatting to all the friendly people. You could be helping someone on the way to a lifetime love of growing veg!!!

Look on it as a bit of fun, you certainly won't get rich. Customers will haggle so overprice just a little so they get the satisfaction and you get a reasonable price. One thing to beware of is coming home with more than you took in the first place due to checking out other people's stalls.

It's a good idea with car boot sale, I saw few of those stalls last Sunday selling off homegrown surplus spuds and PSB along with the usual bedding flowers.

I'm thinking of selling some of my surplus veggies to my neighbours except for those really close neighbours right next to our house but have no close friends/relatives nearby. We have 26 houses in our little lane. This is only when one day I might not cope with the amount I may grow for interest of various veg variety to help pay for seeds addiction, compost, staging etc. I'm thinking of leaving the veg outside by the alleyway so that they can help themselves and put the money through the letter box...no theft. But I reckon I can cope with few losses with dishonest people, it's a fact of life and besides, sometimes you're just grateful for getting the surplus off your back.

Producing plants for a sale....

I too, as of tonight have to produce plants/garden bit's for a charity sale in exactly 1 months time.

What do you think..? Tomatoes..? Peppers..? erm......

lavender and bays go well at boot fairs as they are expensive in shops,
also depends on the area you go to as well, nice posh areas i found dont argue to much on the money, if its poorer area they expect stuff for free and have the cheek to ask if your giving stuff away at the beggining of your sale (hello boot fair place to make a bit of pocket money)always good to chat other sellers while you are there to find out how they do,and whether they go elsewhere and what there views are, always best to do it with two people as you are bound to need the loo at some point (failing that try not to drink to much tea or coffee take a loo roll too ) also the extra eyes are good for those who like to steal, ive had that experience i can forgive little kids as 9 time out of ten they pick up a small toy and walk off with it innocently, makes it a better day with two as your pitch payment is halfed, im always happy if i have at least covered my pitch as it is something to do meet new people and sell stuff at the same time
