He is very cute. I like boxers but not up close (I was knocked down by one as a small child and my cousin's one used to 'bounce' off my bump when I was pregnant). Personally I prefer hounds - though my miniature dachshund is no help at all round the garden but is good company when the weather suits him!

I've been teaching Max to "pick up", "hold" and "fetch" items, so hopefully I can get him bringing me tools from the other side of the garden eventually!Originally posted by TonyF View PostYesterday I was pruning out a huge kiwi grove, ably assisted by my chums two cocker spaniels - trouble is they were too short to reach the old wood I was trying to clear.

I blame all their previous owners for not training them to pass the tools - ok they can't use the long handled stuff but what's wrong with using a dibber, bulb planter and the like?

Made me think of our boxer dog Tess (died 12 years ago, missed every day!) so I photographed a couple of old photos of her so I could show you her. She looks a bit miserable on them but she wasn't keen on having her photo taken, don't know what Max & Murphy are like about it but she used to go ' not again, haven't you got enough photos, I want to go out & play!' Think a boxer dog's default expression is 'poor little me' except when they look like they're laughing & running around like whirling dervishes!Attached FilesInto every life a little rain must fall.

Well, Max has a habit of standing up on his back legs (i.e. to scope out the kitchen worktops) so we used that so that he would stand up against an open door and he would "close it"... as soon as he did it and the door closed, we'd treat him...Originally posted by Flummery View PostBlimey OWG - I couldn't even train my kids to do that!
Although sometimes he'll close the door and come running for a treat because he did it...

We call that the "RSPCA Look".... it's absolutely wretched and is used most of the time, especially when food is around or they don't want to do something! Tess obviously had that down to a T!Originally posted by SueA View PostThink a boxer dog's default expression is 'poor little me' except when they look like they're laughing & running around like whirling dervishes!
