Remember Seed Addiction?

Hi
I've been having a wonderful time working out what to grow next year, finding the right varieties, working out successional growing. Even put it all on a nice spreadsheet with a handy sow and harvest guide...and then I did a quick add up
�171.64!!!
Now this does include shallot bulbs and green manures and seed potatoes and all the seeds I should need for the whole years sowing but heavens above. I checked through the list and apart from a slight obsession with growing different cabbage varieties it doesn't look too mad.
Has anyone else dared work it out??

Sue i was just wondering if you have a wardrobe full of unopened packets of seeds.

I've just sat down with my seed tin and sorted out what I can use again next year, what to throw away etc. Disappointingly, I don't think I need to buy many this year Apart from seed potatoes & onion sets, I think I only need a couple of types of tomato...
Last year, I dread to think how much we spent on seeds and I still have unopened packets, so best try and restrain myself this year!

I've got the seed catalogues through the post and am already making lists in my head.

Actually, I hardly need anything - mainly potatoes, peppers and tomatoes; but I can see me ending up like this year!

So, should we start the support group meetings now, or after Christmas??

my whole budget for the year is about �50 or �60 inc rent for the plot I beg seeds from neighbours, work colleagues, swaps and good old Lidl's and Aldi's. also garden centre bargain bins are a good source of sometimes weird and wonderful varieties, i think my partner would string me up by my dangly bits if i even thought of spending that much!

Seeds! Seeds! Seeds! Who would have thought you can get quite addicted to seeds! I too put my entire seed list onto a spreadsheet to show sowing time etc but I daren't put the seed price. The tin where I'm keeping my seeds is getting so full I won't be able to close the lid as more seeds arrive from America.

I know roughly how much I've spent on seeds this year but I tried to buy them when there was always some kind of special offer. Think I have every kind of vegetables that I would like to grow next year so anybody seeing me buying more seeds, they have my permission to shoot me down.

We too are in a fortunate position that we've already got most of our seeds for 2008, we've one of those plastic baskets that bread comes in at the supermarket, which is divided into months for planting, and its already full with the half packets from last year and the seeds we bought at half price a month ago at the GC!

All thats left to buy is seed spuds and some other carrot fly resistant carrots, as we've been well and truly hit by carrot fly this year!

Its good for the bank balance that we are so sorted, but not good for the seed addiction!

My addiction has returned! I think its a seasonal withdrawl thingy
All spring and summer I can tend my 'babies', come early autumn I can fret over frosts and if they could make it another week in the ground, now in late autumn and winter what????

I'm so obsessed i was dreaming about it last night! I used to dream about Robbie Williams but now its about what sort of Carrot seeds to buy, or potatoes to try!!!! What's happening to me???

Oh blimey, I buy my seeds in dribs and drabs but expect to spend around �60-70 a year. Saying that though we do have 3.5 plots.

To help out we save our own bean and pea seeds, banana shallot and rose de roscoff seed and lots of flower seed.

When you consider though that just the supermarket cost of our strawberries and raspberries covers our outlay inc rent, its a bargain.

I was bad enough looking on a seed co website this morning, I have no chance when the catalogues start!! Mrs D - I love your idea of dividing a box so you know what to sow when.

Seed catalogues started to arrive a few weeks ago but as I've already bought what I need in the half price end of season sale I put them in the recycling bin without looking - aren't I good????? Expect that I'll end up buying a few packets next year when I have a failure or notice a gap but at the moment am feeling pretty smug.

You are not the only one, the GYO bugs hits everybody for seeds hunting and seedsacholic... and it is addicting and becoming a habit ( bad or good ). But it is fun, and when things grow well, taste yummy.. soooo rewarding, ooh why not ?
But don't worry, it will slow down and stabilize after a while, so enjoy it...
