    On the subject of carrots being orange, here's an interesting thing: carrots are mostly orange because they were selectively bred to be that colour by Dutch vegetable gardeners, in honour of their royal house - as in William of Orange. Here's an interesting piece on this, with a bonus explanation of why the colour orange is named after the fruit (rather than the other way around)...

      The Spanish word for the fruit is "naranja". very similar to the Sanskrit mentioned in that link.
